7 Uses of Peppermint Essential Oil – What To Do With It

Hey earth muffins! There is no denying that essential oils are awesome. Not only do they smell amazing, but they can be used for so many other uses as well. I have just recently been getting into essential oils more… And peppermint oil is perfect for the holiday season! ☃️ Thanks to a gift from Public Goods, I have been able to try out a new oil these past few weeks. In today’s post, I will be sharing 7 of my favorite uses of peppermint essential oil. Let’s jump right into the post!

1. Use peppermint oil in the diffuser

My boyfriend and I have an oil diffuser on our bedside table; I love to diffuse a few drops either in the morning or a couple of hours before bed… It makes the room smell heavenly! Peppermint oil wakes up your senses unlike other oils like lavender that are perfect for bed time. I suggest diffusing your peppermint essential oil in the morning to help your mind get alert for the upcoming day!

2. Prevents against bugs (and mice)

In our last apartment, we had GIGANTIC centipedes that were absolutely disgusting to look at when they crawled out of the floor… My favorite on this ‘uses of peppermint essential oil’ list is this – use it to prevent against bugs and mice in your home! Fill up a cup of water and mix in 4-5 drops of peppermint oil. Then, take a paintbrush and line the areas where the bugs are coming in (around floorboards, windows, etc.). Your house might smell like a peppermint forest for a few hours after, but it definitely does work!

3. Put into DIY cleaners

There are plenty of ways to zero waste your cleaning supplies, including making your own cleaners. Essential oils are great for adding fresh, clean scents to these mixtures. I personally love lemon and peppermint oils, but there are so many option that you can choose from!

4. Soothe muscle pain

This ‘uses of peppermint essential oil’ list would not be complete without mentioning some health benefits to this oil. I love that you can opt for more eco-friendly (and natural) healing methods with essential oils – and they actually work too! Peppermint oil can help with muscle pain; just rub 2-3 drops into the area that is hurting to relieve some of the pain.

5. Use it to help with stuffy noses

I feel like there have been colds going around all month long – peppermint essential oil can save the day! You can use it just like Vicks Vaporub – rub in a few drops onto your chest at night to help keep your nose clear. I absolutely hate not being able to breathe out of my nose, so this is a lifesaver whenever I am feeling under the weather. 😷

6. Opt for oral care products with peppermint essential oil!

Instead of choosing a toothpaste with chemical flavoring, select a natural product with peppermint essential oil. I have personally tried out David’s Natural Toothpaste and Hey Humans Toothpaste – both are awesome, eco-friendly alternatives that have essential oils in them! And they come in an aluminum tube that can be recycled too. You can also make your own DIY mouthwash using peppermint essential oil as well. It helps keep your mouth clean and healthy!

7. Sniff to reduce nausea

The feeling of being nauseous is horrible – I’m sure you all agree! Did you know that you can sniff some peppermint essential oil to reduce nausea?! This also works with rubbing alcohol as well – just take a big whiff and that yucky feeling will go away.

  1. These are all great tips! I just wanted to add though that it’s not advisable to use undiluted essential oils on your skin, so maybe you could add to #4 and #5 that it’s recommended that people dilute the peppermint oil into a teaspoon of carrier oil (such as almond oil) or unscented body lotion.
