Steps To Take To Be More Eco-Friendly At Home

Looking after the planet we all live on is something so many people care about now. We want to protect the natural world and stop destroying it. There is already so much damage to the planet with litter and rubbish everywhere and there is even a little island in the ocean made out of trash and plastic which is harming the ocean wildlife and ecosystem. It also affects pollution and the air we breathe, so in turn, can affect our health. There is so much to be done and a lot of it needs to be done by big corporations but there are small things we can do in our own lives and homes to make the planet a better place to live while we are on it.

Energy Usage

One good way to start thinking about how you affect the planet is how much energy you use, this will also help with the huge increases in energy bills too. Small things like remembering to switch off the plug when things aren’t being used to save electricity, using the air fryer rather than the oven and being a bit more restrictive with putting the heating on. Before you put the heating on thinking about if you are as wrapped up as you can be, with a jumper and blanket. Another bigger way to save on energy usage is to use more green energy, you can research energy providers and see which of them use greener energy to align with your beliefs and you can also install solar panels on your home to save money and have energy from the sun.

Food Waste

Every year tonnes of food is wasted and thrown back into landfill and it is so bad for our planet not only is it so wasteful it can cause a whole host of other issues. Another reason is to be vegetarian. To reduce food waste in your own home, a good way to do this is by meal planning and batch cooking. If you plan the meals you are going to be eating for the week ahead you will know exactly what you will be needing to buy and can also plan it around what food you already have at home. Batch cooking is another good way as it means leftovers won’t be thrown away and will be made into meals which can be frozen to be used at a later date.

Walk more

Not only is petrol very expensive these days but it is also one of the big contributors to pollution. You can certainly tell the difference in the pollution that cars give when you are in the city compared to being in the countryside. You can tackle this aspect by walking more or if it’s a longer distance using your bike. It also is great for your health too. A lot of workplaces also have a cycle or walk-to-work scheme and you can sometimes get perks from it. These simple changes can make a big impact on how eco-friendly you are.
