How to Play Sustainable Leprechaun Tricks This St. Patty’s Day

Hey earth muffins! When I was growing up, a silly little “leprechaun” would cause havoc around the house on St. Patrick’s Day… Just like Santa or the Easter Bunny, I would look forward to his arrival each year. Now that I’ve grown up, I still like to cause a bit of mischief for old times sake – and you can too! Plus, these shenanigans can also be eco-friendly and low-impact on the planet too. Keep reading for the best sustainable leprechaun tricks to play this St. Patty’s Day!

~Turn a few things green!

A classic leprechaun trick is to dye the milk green. Who remembers opening the fridge and seeing green milk for their cereal??! While most people opt to use food coloring, you can also use natural dyes to avoid the plastic packaging if you don’t already have food coloring in your pantry. Spinch is an excellent way to dye foods green. You might want to opt out of the milk though (as spinach milk just doesn’t sound great…); but, there are plenty of other foods to dye instead. Get creative!

~Mess up a few secondhand decors

There are plenty of ways to have a zero waste St. Patrick’s Day – one suggestion is to decorate your house with thrifted decor! And, on the morning of this green holiday, a “leprechaun” loves to move around these decorations. Turn the couch cushions upside down, leave a path of secondhand books down the hallway, or hide a ceramic figurine somewhere unexpected. 😉 Bonus points if you can hide something so cleverly it takes a few weeks (or months!) to find it again!

~Leave behind a few goodies

Leprechauns don’t have to be full of only tricks either. After causing a bit of chaos around the house, they might be feeling generous and leave behind some local, handmade sweets. An extra way to be green this St. Patrick’s Day is to support those small businesses you love. A leprechaun definitely loves sugar too!
