Hey earth muffins! May is just around the corner, which is extra special to me since it is my birth month! I will be turning 26 this year… In honor of my birthday, I thought it would be fun to share 26 lessons I’ve learned about sustainable living. From small little things to big life lessons, there is so much to learn by reducing your impact on the planet. Here’s what I’ve learned by living a sustainable lifestyle:
Lessons I’ve Learned by Living a Sustainable Lifestyle:
- You don’t have to be perfect.
- Every small change truly helps.
- You actually save a lot of money by living a sustainable lifestyle!
- Spending time in nature is extremely good for the soul.
- Reducing your impact helps you figure out what is most important to you.
- Plant-based diets can be delicious (and nutritious!)
- Greenwashing is everywhere.
- Fast fashion is everywhere.
- Thrifting is a fun way to shop! You never know what you’ll find.
- Mason jars are the best.
- Composting isn’t actually as hard as people think!
- We were put on this planet for a reason; we might as well take care of it as best we can.
- You can’t solve all climate problems yourself – don’t feel guilty about things you can’t control.
- Buying less stuff is extremely freeing!
- It is fun to challenge yourself to reduce your impact on Mother Earth! You get really good at reusing things and opting for more sustainable options.
- Not all shampoo bars will work for your hair.
- Buying local and from small businesses is much more satisfying than shopping at chain stores.
- New sustainable products are created every day – keep testing out eco alternatives!
- You’ll impact those in your close circle just by changing your lifestyle. Seeing others live in an eco-friendly way shows other just how easy it is!
- It is important to stay educated (and keep learning) about topics, like eco living, that are interesting to you.
- A safety razor is one of the easiest eco swaps you can make!
- People will ask questions when they see you doing something out of the ordinary (like using reusable produce bags or bringing home something to compost). Let them ask and be open with sharing why you do it.
- Name your house plants – they are members of the family after all!
- You can still eat meat and care about the planet. There is no right way to change your diet to reduce your impact.
- Not everyone around you is going to care about the planet as much as you… And that’s okay.
- Being an earth muffin is the best!!!
Here’s to Many More Lessons…
Overall, there are plenty of things to learn by living a sustainable lifestyle. Whether you have been living this way for years or are just starting on your journey, you can learn a lot by reducing your impact. Even if these lessons seem small, their impact is still important to Mother Earth. What have you learned from your eco-friendly lifestyle? Comment below and let me know your favorites on this list!

Oh, I love this. I am always so inspired by what you share and have been able to make some adjustments in my own home, though I know I don’t necessarily live the most sustainable lifestyle. Thank you for all the inspiration. And I hope May will be a great month for you!
