Easy Ways of Making School Eco-Friendly This Fall

Hey earth muffins! I can’t believe school has already started this year. The students in my area went back on August 22nd, which is just crazy to me! This school year, make it a priority to reduce your impact on the planet. The following are easy tips for making school eco-friendly – but the opportunities are endless!

Buy supplies secondhand and/or reuse what you already have.

While back-to-school sales are tempting this time of year, don’t buy anything unless you must. Instead, use up what you already have from prior school years or source necessary items from your favorite secondhand stores.

Pack your lunch every day!

Opt out of the cafeteria choices and bring your lunch with you every day. It is simple to pack a zero waste lunch! I personally find it easiest to bring leftovers from dinner the night before. This prevents food waste in addition to a tasty, filling lunch. Try extra hard to avoid all single packaged items to avoid plastics too.

Take electronic notes if you can.

I know when I was in school taking notes on an iPad or laptop wasn’t allowed… But, if your school does allow electronic note taking I highly suggest it! This will avoid a lot of paper and allow you to store all your notes in one place. You never have to worry about leaving a notebook behind at school before a big test!

Recycle as much as possible!

Be conscious of all the paper you use and reuse as much of it as possible. Make sure your classroom has a recycle bin and get others to use it often too.

Print only as a last resort.

If you don’t have to print homework, papers, articles, etc., avoid the paper usage! Especially in college, it was much easier to take digital notes on assignments instead of doing that on a physical copy. Just think of all the trees you will save!

Rock some thrifted outfits.

Making school eco-friendly isn’t limited to doing actual classwork. Instead of buying a lot of fast fashion to wear, do some thrifting! You’ll never be caught in the same clothes as someone else when you find unique pieces that are totally your style.

Join a green club or start your own!

Like I mentioned in my how to be eco-friendly at the office post, make sure you get together with like-minded people to make a bigger impact. If your school has one, join the environmental club. For the places that haven’t caught up with the times yet, form your own green club!

Carpool, bike, or take the bus to school.

This is an easy way to reduce carbon emissions before class even starts. Opt for carpooling after school on your way to sports practices/games too. A benefit of this is getting to spend extra time with your friends!
