Hey earth muffins! My Christmas spirit has come early this year… Not sure why, but I’m so ready for the holidays! 😊 There are often a bunch of holiday events to attend in December; many of them have an “ugly sweater” theme. Don’t buy your ugly sweater at the store just yet… You can find plenty of them secondhand! Here are my tips for finding the best secondhand ugly Christmas sweaters this year:
~Start looking early!
The earlier you start scouring thrift stores for “ugly” holiday sweaters, the better your chances are for finding the best ones. If you haven’t started your hunt already, I suggest you get started ASAP. The best idea is to look for them consistently throughout the year too. I’ve even seen a ton of them over the summer months when they aren’t as highly coveted.
~Make sure to check every section
One of my favorite thrift shopping tips is to shop in every section. Don’t just stick to women’s clothes – check out the men’s and kid’s departments as well. You might find things that are put in the wrong spot or that will fit you regardless of what section they are in. Clothes at the thrift store may be shrunk, stretched, or fit like a completely different size. You might miss something if you don’t check all the departments!
~Hit up all types of secondhand stores
You won’t just find ugly Christmas sweaters at thrift stores… Check out all of the secondhand resources near you: antique malls, Facebook Marketplace, even Ebay. Because “ugly” holiday sweaters are popular, you will see them popping up in most secondhand spaces this time of year. Always opt for used before buying new, so make sure you exhaust all your resources.
~Buy only the sweater(s) you will wear many years to come!
To be as sustainable as possible when shopping secondhand, make sure you stick to the basic rules of thrifting; buy only what you will continue to wear each year! While having a collection of ugly sweaters might allow you to wear a different one to each party/event, is that really the best eco-friendly option? Probably not. Only have a couple in your closet and rock them with pride!
Overall, it is easy to find secondhand ugly Christmas sweaters if you take the time to search for them. I can guarantee you will find a unique one at some secondhand place near you! These suggestions are wonderful! I actually just thrifted a great Friends themed ugly Christmas sweater the other day. It was only $10 and looked lightly used. I’m super excited to wear it this holiday season!
