Hey earth muffins! Thanksgiving is just around the corner… Which means it is time to start prepping! The holidays often create excess waste if you aren’t careful; but, it is easy to celebrate an eco-friendly Thanksgiving! One way to reduce your impact on the planet this November is to opt for a meatless alternative to turkey. There are plenty of these on the market nowadays – here are the best plant-based turkey products to try!
1. Quorn Meatless Turkey-Style Roast (~$10)
Just like a real turkey, this is a frozen roast that must be thawed and baked in the oven. The texture (and even the smell!) is similar to the holiday bird, which makes it a perfect replacement. It is also on the smaller side; great for when you only have a few plant based guests coming over for dinner. I got mine at Kroger but I’m sure you can find it at other stores too. 😊
2. Gardein Plant-Based Turk’y Roast (~$10-15)
Another great plant based turkey is by Gardein. This company has a lot of awesome plant products, so it didn’t surprise me at all to see this at the store. Unlike Quorn’s, this one actually has a faux stuffing inside made from rice, cranberries, and kale. Delicious! It needs to be roasted like a real turkey as well. You can find these at Walmart, Kroger, and other grocery chains.
3. Field Roast Celebration Roast (~$12-18)
For those with a bunch of plant-based dinner guests, this might be the best option since it is larger. Check out the Field Roast website to see where you can purchase them near you! According to reviews, this is a bit more like a “beef” roast, so it might not be a total replacement for turkey. BUT, could be a great idea for the Christmas holiday instead!
4. Another plant-based alternative
If you want to celebrate a totally zero waste Thanksgiving, it might be better to opt for an entirely different plant-based “meat”. Choose something that your family knows and loves – tofu, tempeh, etc. There are so many plant-based protein options (check out this plant-based protein guide if you need suggestions)! These alternatives can be sourced without a bunch of excess packaging as well, which is definitely something to be thankful for.
It isn’t actually difficult to opt for a meatless option this Thanksgiving! With plant based diets rising in popularity, there are meatless products easily accessible in many grocery stores. But, you can always just cook a tasty non-protein that your family loves already! What will you be doing this Thanksgiving? 🦃 Comment below and let me know if you will be choosing a meatless option this year!
