Amazing Eco-Friendly Water Balloons Alternatives To Try This Summer!

Hey earth muffins! When the weather gets warm, water balloon fights are a popular way to cool off and have fun in the sun. However, traditional water balloons are single-use items that generate a significant amount of plastic waste. In addition, it is super annoying to clean up all the plastic remnants they leave behind! Thankfully, there are eco-friendly alternatives that allow you to enjoy water play without the negative environmental impact. Here are some fantastic options for eco-friendly water balloons to try out this summer!

~Sponges

Instead of using water balloons, try sponges! They are awesome because they soak up a bunch of water and won’t pop on impact. A quick dip in some water means they are ready to go again! You can even cut up some sponges into strips and tie them together to make sponge bombs as well.

~Reusable water balloons

Did you know there are such things as reusable water balloons?? All you have to do is open the balls to fill with water and close before you throw. Such a great way to avoid all the single use plastic since these can be reused again and again! It is also cheaper to invest in a set of reusable water balloons (affiliate link) so that you can use them every year.

~Water sprinklers or water guns

Instead of using water balloons, opt for something you already have in the garage. I bet many of you already have some sort of sprinkler or water guns that could lead to a pretty awesome water fight when the water is hot. If you can, choose water-efficient sprinklers or those with adjustable settings to control water usage.

~Biodegradable water balloons

Several companies now offer eco-friendly water balloons that are biodegradable and compostable (affilliate link). These alternatives are typically made from materials like natural latex or recycled rubber. They function similarly to traditional water balloons but break down naturally over time, leaving no harmful residue behind. This can be a great option if you still love traditional water balloons!

  1. I love this lost but
please don’t promote eco friendly balloons. there is no such thing. It is green washing. “Natural” Latex will take – they will quote the same amount of time as an oak leaf. what they don’t tell you is those take 6 mo that to 6 years. and animals don’t accidentally consume oak leaves but they will consume the coloured latex and it will kill them. usually the composting conditions are ones that aren’t available to every day consumers. Sponges. hoses. or another activity altogether. no balloons of any kind. ❤️
