Hey earth muffins! Easter is almost here! Like with all holidays, food is often the centerpiece of every Easter celebration. And that typically means a delicious ham! However, for those of us on plant-based diets, it can leave us searching for a good alternative… Just like there are plant-based turkey alternatives for Thanksgiving, you can also find great meatless ham alternatives for your Easter dinner too. Keep reading for the full list!
Tofurky “Ham” Roast
Tofurky has a great meatless ham roast in a lot of grocery stores this time of year. It is small (about the size of a softball), but is perfect for families with both meat and plant-based eaters. Just pop this into the oven with the ham! This roast comes with an amber ale glaze to put on top, but you could always just eat it plain as well. Definitely a great inexpensive and minimal effort product.
Lily’s Vegan Pantry Hams
Lily’s Vegan Pantry is a website that sells tons of great vegan products. They have quite the selection of different hams – from stewed to smoked to sliced, you can find something for anyone. Their prices are decent too; it will cost about $10-18 plus shipping. Not as convenient as picking something up at your local grocery store, but could be a great vegan website to try out.
Sliced “Ham”
While not traditional, thick-cut Easter ham, another great alternative is to check out the sliced plant-based hams at your grocery store. A meatless ham-style roast is a bit harder to find than turkey/chicken ones, so sliced “ham” might be your best option. These are also going to be cheaper and can be used to use up the Easter leftovers as well (anyone care for a leftover egg and “ham” sandwich??).
DIY Hams
If you can’t find a meatless ham in your local grocery store, you can still create a delicious dinner with a DIY “ham”. From tofu roasts to seitan loafs, there are plenty of recipes out there on Pinterest to create a unique and tasty star of your Easter dinner. Play around with multiple recipes and let your family decide which ones are keepers for next year!
Overall, there are plenty of options when it comes to finding meatless ham alternatives for Easter dinner. While some of these might not be as easily found as the plant-based turkey alternatives, you definitely won’t have to go hungry this Easter. Will you be serving a meatless menu this Easter?
