Introducing “Motivation” – Lush Liquid Eyeliner Review

Hey earth muffins! If you have been reading this blog for awhile, you will know that I am a huge fan of Lush’s shampoo bars. Once or twice a year I will place a large order on Lush to stock up on bars (and reduce my shipping impact). This time, I decided to try out some of their low waste makeup too! Back in high school I used to be much more experimental with makeup. I remember absolutely loving to wear blue eyeliner; why couldn’t I rock it now? So, I purchased Lush’s blue “Motivation” eyeliner… Keep reading for a full Lush liquid eyeliner review!

What I Love About this Product

First up, this is a great sustainable eyeliner alternative! The bottle is made of glass which can be recycled or reused once you use up the product. It also doesn’t come with a brush which is awesome because I already have my own. (You can of course buy a brush from Lush/drugstore if you don’t already have one) Lush also does a great job when shipping your products. The box is small and fits only what you ordered; in addition, it is packed full of corn packing peanuts that dissolve in water. Amazing!

While Lush products aren’t made of 100% clean ingredients, the brand is much better than most. The ingredients are vegan, and cruelty-free – a huge plus. This eyeliner contains jojoba oil and aloe which allows it to stay a great consistency. I’ve used cake eyeliner in the past but have now been finding a lot of success with zero waste liquid liners instead.

The Motivation eyeliner also works great! The pigmentation is an absolutely gorgeous shade of shimmery blue/teal. As I mentioned above, the aloe and jojoba oil make it the perfect texture to apply with an eyeliner brush. It is buildable or subtle with just one coat which makes it wearable by anyone who wants to experiment with eyeliner that isn’t a neutral color. It stays on all day long too (but note that it is not waterproof).

What Could Be Improved

This Lush liquid eyeliner review wouldn’t be complete without a mention of price. For $20, this is pretty steep compared to all the drugstore eyeliners out there. But, there are a few redeeming qualities to the product that make it worth the price tag. First, it is packaged in glass instead of plastic. A big win for the planet! Second, a little goes a long way with this eyeliner, so it will last a long time. Lastly, the color is gorgeous and made using (mostly) clean ingredients. Does it seem worth the price to you?

The last thing I wanted to mention is that this would be difficult to travel with. The glass vial would make this challenging to take on an airplane. It is best to keep it standing upright to avoid the oils from separating from the rest of the product. This also makes it difficult to pack in your toiletries/makeup bag (unless you have one that allows your products to stand up).

Overall, I would highly recommend trying out Lush’s liquid eyeliners! If you aren’t into bright shades like “Motivation“, they have plenty of more neutral shades as well. Eyeliners in glass vials are much more eco-friendly, especially when they work just like other eyeliners packaged in plastic. Have you tried liquid eyeliners before?
