More and more people are becoming conscious about their health, as well as the state of the environment. As a result, people are beginning to question if they can be healthy, as well as support the environment with lifestyle choices. The short answer is yes. Unfortunately, it is a common misconception in society that we can only achieve one or the other, or it is very difficult to achieve both. To help you on your journey, here are several examples of how you can lead a healthier lifestyle, as well as becoming more eco-friendly at the same time.
Buy and eat food seasonally
A great way to get a large portion of all the minerals, vitamins, and nutrients that your body needs, is to buy and eat a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables. However, not many people realize that a lot of the fruit and vegetables that they buy are not actually available all year. In fact, a lot of them have to be grown, and then flown or transported many miles from all over the world, which will have a negative impact on the environment. So, a way around this is to try and eat as seasonally as possible. For example, make grilled carrots between the months of July, and November. This is when they are mostly in season, and therefore will have the least amount of miles on them when you purchase them. As a bonus, and if you can, buy as much of your produce loose, or in as little packaging as possible. This will also help reduce the impact of waste, and plastic use on the environment.
Walk and cycle to get around
A lot of people currently live in a world that is dominated by convenience and ease. While this can be a useful way to help get things done in your day-to-day life faster or more efficiently, it is not always the most eco-friendly or healthy option. For example, most families will now own at least 1 vehicle and will use it to go almost anywhere, at any time. However, this does nothing for your health or the environment. Next time that you are planning on getting into your vehicle to travel somewhere, ask yourself if it is totally necessary to use it, or can you walk or cycle to your destination for this journey? If it is a nice day or a local errand that you are doing, then choosing to not use your vehicle will not only do yourself a world of good but also the environment.
Change your hygiene and cleanliness products
A simple way of being healthy is to take care of your bodyβs hygiene, as well as making sure that your clothes, cooking equipment, eating utensils, and crockery are clean. Sadly, a lot of the readily available products used to help clean or disinfect these things have many harmful chemicals in them that go straight into the environment when it drains away through your shower or sinks. They can also be toxic for your health. Fortunately, there are many non-toxic equivalents available, that use a lot less plastic and as a business, have eco-friendly practices. These kinds of products are typically made from natural ingredients, which are much better for your health. This is a great option if you are interested in staying healthy but also looking after the environment, so why not consider switching the products you use?
There can be many reasons as to why a person would want to get started with a more eco-friendly, and healthy lifestyle. And now that you know you can, why not give it a go?
