Hey earth muffins! Whenever I try out eco-friendly products, I always try to share a review on this blog. I hope they are helpful in sharing hits and misses in the growing sustainable products market! 😊 I have tested out multiple shampoo bars ever since I made the switch from plastic bottles to bar products in the shower… But, I have never shared my thoughts on conditioner bars – until today! When winter started, my hair was feeling a bit dry. I had to reorder shampoo bars from Lush, so I figured I would try out a conditioner bar as well. Let’s jump right into my American Cream Lush review!
What I Love About the Conditioner Bar
As I’ve mentioned in all my past shampoo bar reviews, I love that these products cut out any plastic packaging. Plastic is not only bad for the environment but the hideously colored bottles never fit the vibe I’m going for in my minimalist bathroom. The naked bar looks much nicer in my shower! While the product still had to be shipped to me, you could always hit up a Lush store if you have one in your area. Unfortunately, I no longer have a Lush near me. To save on shipping emissions, just make sure you order a huge haul of bar products so that you will be stocked for a long time. 🙃
My American Cream Lush review wouldn’t be complete without discussing how the product actually fares in the shower. The conditioner bar works great! This specific bar is meant to hydrate dry hair, and it definitely does the trick. My hair feels so soft and silky once I use it, which is exactly what I was looking for. It also smells sweet but isn’t overpowering like the Honey I Washed my Hair shampoo bar. The Lush website says it is milkshake scented, but I think it is really just a subtle vanilla strawberry scent.
Another great bonus about this product is that it lasts a super long time – even longer than the shampoo bars! As I will mention in the “con” section below, it doesn’t lather very much. Because of this, the pressed conditioner bar will last you much longer than Lush’s shampoo bars. It is also slightly bigger in size as well. I personally think that at $13.95 this is an excellent price point for the product you are getting. It will last you a while, which makes it more cost effective that other plastic packaged conditioners on the market!
What Could Be Improved
As I mentioned above, the American Cream conditioner bar doesn’t really lather. While “normal” conditioners don’t really lather either, it can be difficult to use a bar product when you don’t feel like anything is coming off it. I usually lather Lush shampoo bars in my hands before applying to my hair; for the pressed conditioners, it is definitely easier to just rub the bar right on your hair. The lather-ability of this bar is a personal preference for sure; but, I wanted to still mention it in my American Cream Lush review! 😄
In prior Lush reviews, I’ve talked about how some of their products leave a colored residue in the shower (example: Jumping Juniper shampoo bar). While the bright pink color of this bar doesn’t actually leave behind a ton of color, it still annoys me that they just add unnecessary dye into the product. I buy shampoo bars because I care about the planet, yes, but also because I try to limit the chemicals, fragrances, and dyes in my bath products. It just seems like it would be easier (and less messy) to avoid brightly colored dyes in general!
Final Thoughts
Overall, I have been really enjoying my American Cream pressed conditioner bar from Lush. If you aren’t looking for a product that is specifically for dry hair, they have two other bars to choose from as well. This bar works great for my hair and is priced reasonably for how long it will last you. While it doesn’t lather as much as other bar products, this is a personal preference of mine. Using bar products in the shower is a huge win for sustainability; so, I highly recommend you give them a try! Have you tried any conditioner bars? I’ve wondered about these and been curious to try one. But I would do it for the natural ingredients, so would NOT like added dyes or perfumes. What’s the point of that!
Thanks for answering a few of my questions. Will still be looking for one!
