Review: Lush “New” Shampoo Bar!

Hey earth muffins! When I was writing my latest review of the American Cream pressed conditioner bar, I realized that I haven’t written a post about the latest shampoo I’ve been trying. So, I figured now was the time to share my thoughts on Lush’s “New” shampoo! The bar is almost gone, and I am thinking about trying some new brands next. I’ve tried out a bunch of Lush shampoo bars over the past few years. I have enjoyed all of them, but I don’t have a Lush near me anymore. There is a store nearby that sells a bunch of sustainable products, so I think I will be shopping there next. 😊 Fingers crossed I can find other brands I like while shopping local! Without further ado, let’s jump into the Lush “New” shampoo bar review.

What I Love About This Shampoo Bar

Now that I’ve swapped from plastic shampoo bottles to shampoo bars, I will NEVER go back. Bar products are awesome because they are eco-friendly and reduce the need for any packaging. Check out my other reasons for choosing bar bathroom products! This Lush shampoo bar is just like the other bars I’ve tried from them – sustainable and awesomely packaged in absolutely nothing. 😍 I like that the bars are round and easy to travel with too!

The Lush “New” shampoo bar works really well on my hair. The website says it adds volume and stimulates your scalp. It is an excellent shampoo overall! I have naturally oily hair and this cleans it really well without making my hair dry or brittle. The bar lathers super well, which makes it easy to use in the shower. The shampoo also makes my hair so soft once it dries! This is one of my favorite shampoo bars I have tried from Lush in terms of how my hair/scalp feels after I use it – would definitely recommend it!

A review on Life of an Earth Muffin wouldn’t be complete without mentioning price. This Lush shampoo bar is priced at $13.95 for 2 oz of product. This is extremely reasonable when comparing it to other shampoos on the market. Plus, this bar lasts so much longer than a “normal” shampoo because it hasn’t been watered down. It makes economic sense to purchase bars – so it is definitely a pro to this product!

What I Dislike

Walking into any Lush store is a sensory experience – there are so many smells! Some products smell amazing (like the Honey I Washed my Hair shampoo bar). Unfortunately, I’m not a huge fan of cinnamon. And this shampoo bar smells extremely “spicy”. 🔥 The scent isn’t as powerful or strong over time… But when I first opened it I wasn’t sure if I would be able to handle the smell. This is definitely a personal preference; if you like the smell of cinnamon, you would love it! But, it is just not my cup of tea.

I’ve mentioned this in multiple Lush reviews, but I hate that they put dye in their shampoo bars. This bar is bright red, which means it leaves red stains in the bathtub. They can be cleaned off, but it annoys me that I have to clean my tub from my shampoo bar. Plus, red droplets in your bathtub give off a bloodstain vibe which isn’t the best… While it obviously doesn’t stain your hands or hair when you use it, I personally think it would be much better if there was just no dye in the product at all!

For this shampoo bar, Lush randomly puts a wooden #BeCrueltyFree stick in the product. While I love the message and highly support the fact that the Lush “New” shampoo bar supports cruelty free products, the stick is unnecessary and makes it difficult to lather on that side of the bar. I’ve had a similar comment with the huge citrus slice in the Montalbano shampoo bar. There is really no need for these things in the shampoo bars other than for aesthetic purposes… In my opinion, just leave them out!

Final Thoughts on the Lush New Shampoo Bar

Overall, this might be my favorite Lush shampoo bar to date! It works wonders on my oily hair and makes my scalp feel extra clean. Plus, huge bonus points for being a sustainable product with no packaging! Even though it has dye in it and smells a bit too spicy for my liking, the price really can’t be beat. I would highly recommend trying out Lush’s shampoo bars if you haven’t already. What shampoo bars are your favorite?? Comment below your brand suggestions on what I should try next!

  1. I am not into spicy smells or cinnamon either, so I appreciate the heads up! I’m glad the shampoo bar itself works well and you have been able to put it to good use!
