Allbirds Wool Runners Review – The NEW Sustainable Shoe You Need this Summer!

Hey earth muffins! Back in February I reviewed my Allbirds flats for you all. I still wear those shoes to the office often – when my Nike sneakers finally wore out (after 4+ years might I add!), I thought it would be a good idea to invest in some sustainable running shoes. Allbirds was obviously the brand that came to mind first. Let’s jump right into my Allbirds Wool Runners review!

What I Love About the Allbirds Wool Runners

Like I mentioned in my last Allbirds review, I love that this company is truly sustainable. The shoe I ended up selecting (the Wool Runners in “Matterhorn”) are completely carbon neutral! There are even eco details on every aspect of each shoe on the website. Even the shoe laces of this shoe are made of recycled plastic bottles! You can see their attention to being eco-friendly when you receive your shoes in the mail too. The box is perfectly sized for your shoes and everything that is used as packaging can be recycled.

These shoes are also awesome to wear. The sizes are true to other shoes, and they are super comfortable. I picked the Wool Runners because, according to the website, they are good for walking/everyday wear. I don’t typically run, but if you do, Allbirds has a bunch of shoes specific to running too. Another great feature of these shoes is that they can be thrown right into the washing machine when dirty. Such a great way to increase longevity!

Depending on which Allbirds design you choose, there are also many different colors to pick from. The last pair of sneakers I had were black, which I regretted after awhile. Colored shoes are much more exciting! The brand also adds new colors every so often which ensures a bit of spice with the seasons. The Matterhorn color I picked is a pretty shade of purple that is perfect for summer.

The last pro of this Allbirds Wool Runners review is the price. These shoes were only $110, which is extremely comparable to other sneakers on the market. This is even cheaper than a lot of the more “trendy” Nike shoes – do your part for the planet and select the cheaper AND higher quality option instead. I promise you won’t be disappointed.

What Could Be Better

The only thing I would change about these shoes is that the shoe laces are shorter than typical sneakers. While this isn’t a problem for me (I actually like shorter laces so that I don’t trip on them), I can see it being an issue if you have wider feet. The shorter lace would definitely make it more difficult to tie your shoes. However, this could easily be fixed by just buying a set of longer laces which would create additional packaging waste.

Another thing to be aware of is that they might need to be broken in. Just like my Birkenstocks, I found that I got a blister on my left heel until I wore them for a bit. Not a huge deal (and could have been the socks I was wearing…), but thought I would still mention it in this Allbirds Wool Runners review!

Final Thoughts on the Wool Runners

So, have I convinced you to buy a pair of Allbirds sneakers yet?? If not, here is my final suggestion – buy yourself a pair of Allbirds! 😍 The company is sustainable, the shoes are comfortable, and the price is right. While I’m keeping my ripped out Nikes for gardening, I definitely will not be going back to non-sustainable sneaker options in the future. What running shoes are you using currently? Comment below if you would ever buy yourself a pair of Allbirds!

  1. I love that these shoes are sustainable and can be washed! A lot of the times my shoes end up getting so dirty that it makes them look so much more worn that they really are. I also love that the price is reasonable. I have seen shoes at over $200 and yeah, no thanks!
