Hey earth muffins! Christmas is just around the corner and holiday shopping has begun. 🎄 Instead of using disposable wrapping paper to wrap your gifts, I highly suggest trying out furoshiki wraps instead. These are a great reusable alternative and are much better for the environment. Let’s jump into a guide on what these wraps are AND how to wrap presents with them.
So, What Are Furoshiki Wraps?
Furoshiki wraps are pieces of fabric that are used to wrap gifts. While you can buy specific furoshiki wraps, there are plenty of things you can use that are already around your house. Old fabric scraps, bandanas, scarves, etc. Get creative and use what you already have before buying any furoshiki wraps this Christmas. Using these wraps are obviously better for the planet because they can be reused every year and don’t require the usage of any new resources to produce.
How to Tie a Furoshiki Wrap
The first step is to place your gift in the middle of your wrap. Like wrapping paper, make sure the fabric is larger than the gift itself. If your present is rectangular, I recommend placing it on the diagonal. Start by taking two opposite corners; bring them together and tie in 1 or 2 knots.
The next step is to repeat this with the other sides of the wrap. Once the present is fully wrapped with the fabric, you can adjust where the knots are to ensure none of the gift is showing.
There you have it, a lovely wrapped present! To make your gift more festive, you can tuck small pine branches, gift tags, etc. into the tied areas.
Overall, I highly recommend using furoshiki wraps this Christmas! They are better for Mother Earth AND look super cute under the tree. 🎁 In addition, they aren’t difficult to tie either. Instead of using disposable wrapping paper (and creating a bunch of extra waste this holiday), choose fabric wraps! Have you used furoshiki wraps before? Comment below and let me know how you tie them!
