Hey earth muffins! I recently made some french onion soup… And yes, it was fully plant-based! How is this possible you might ask – because it was made with No Beef Broth beef broth alternative from Ocean’s Halo. Yupp, vegan “beef” broth is a thing; and it was delicious! But let’s not get too ahead of ourselves. In today’s No Beef Broth review I will be sharing all my thoughts if this product is worth it or not. Let’s jump right into it!
What I Love About This Product
Obviously I love that this is a more sustainable, plant-based alternative to traditional beef broth. Fall is soup season, so having eco-friendly broth in the pantry is a great way to not miss out on making some delicious soups. It had been years since I made a french onion soup… Amazing that I could finally make one with a better for the planet alternative!
On top of it being better for the earth than traditional beef broth, it also tastes amazing! It’s been years since I’ve had 100% beef broth, but I can tell you that they don’t taste exactly the same… But that is totally fine! Ocean’s Halo makes their broths with kelp extract, but it doesn’t have any sort of fishy flavor. The no beef broth tastes like a veggie broth with deeper meat-like flavors – definitely tastes really good!
Another pro to this brand is that they have a nice range of vegan broths. Chicken, miso, pho, ramen – something for everyone! The broths also seem to be more accessible and at chain grocery chains as well. I got my broth at a local TJ Maxx, but the Kroger I typically shop at has a bunch of broth flavors from Ocean’s Halo. Their website says you can find most broths at Walmart too; it wouldn’t surprise me if you can find them near you as well!
What Could Be Improved
Like with all reviews on Life of an Earth Muffin, we have to talk about price. Compared to other broths, these vegan ones are slightly higher in price. I bought this one from TJ Maxx for around $5. It looks like Kroger prices them around $4. Most veggie broths are $1 to $3, so I honestly think the price point is totally reasonable for what you get. Not a huge con to this product, but something to think about.
Overall, I would highly recommend trying out the vegan broths from Ocean’s Halo. If this no beef broth review didn’t convince you, I’m not sure what will. Especially for soup season, it is important to have some broths in the pantry. So why not pick one that is better for the planet (and better for you)? Have you tried any plant-based broth alternatives??
Love,
Jenna ♥
