Hey earth muffins! When I started my current job two years ago, I invested in some nice work shoes from Rothy and All Birds. Unfortunately, my All Bird flats recently got a hole in them… So, I decided to find some other sustainable shoe company to test out. I saw some YouTubers talking about Burudani – a new brand on the market selling “sustainable” shoes for an affordable price. In today’s post, I will share my Burudani shoes review with you all – and let you know if the company is truly sustainable or not!
What I Love About This Product
The first thing I love about these shoes is that it came in minimal packaging. The box and everything else that packaged the shoe could be recycled which is nice to see. While I’m not too sure that the rest of the company is truly sustainable (more on that later), it is always nice to see when plastics are being avoid during shipping.
I also like that there are a bunch of different styles. From heels to flats, there is something for everyone! The colors are more neutral, but I think that is perfect for people headed to the office for work. I bought two pairs of pointed flats in two different styles – one in black and the other in navy. Definitely good neutrals to pair with any outfit at work.
This Burudani shoes review would not be complete without talking about price. These shoes are more affordable than other sustainable shoe brands like Rothy, costing only about $50-60 per pair. This makes them more accessible to the masses which is always a bonus.
What Could Be Improved
I ordered two pointed toe flats in the same size… And for some reason the shoes fit quite differently! The black pair feels slightly too small while the navy shoes seem a bit too big. Thank goodness they are still wearable for me! It is weird that a shoe company can’t produce the same size shoe even if the style is slightly different…
Is the Brand Just Greenwashing??
So the last question is this: “Is the brand actually sustainable?”. I would have to say an overall no – I definitely think this brand is just greenwashing about their eco efforts. Since purchasing the flats, the company is now owned by Dream Pairs shoes… And it no longer even has its own website! The Burudani shoes are just the “sustainable shoe line” for this company, which I think is just a big lie as well. The shoes are advertised to be made out of a sustainable upper made from recycled plastic bottles but there is nothing else on their website that goes into details about this or any other eco-friendly practices at the company. The shoes shipped from China which made me even more suspicious about the “sustainable fabric”. Even if the shoes are maybe slightly more eco-friendly than other fast fashion brands, I don’t believe that they are the best sustainable choice for those looking to reduce their impact on the planet.
Overall, these shoes may not be sustainable; but, I will continue to wear them as long as I can so that I didn’t waste the resources used during production. If you are looking for eco-friendly work shoes, I would highly suggest investing in Rothy (or All Birds) shoes instead. Definitely disappointed that Burudani wasn’t as green as I had hoped!
