bookmark_borderNatissy Reusable Panty Liners: An Awesome Sustainable Product Review!

Hey earth muffins! At the beginning of this year, I introduced you all to the brand Natissy when I reviewed their reusable “paper” towels (which I still absolutely love!). When Natissy reached out to me to try their panty liners, I was so excited to try out another one of their products. I recently entered the world of reusable period pads after experimenting with menstrual cups with little success. If you haven’t checked out my most recent pads review, I highly suggest giving it a read! 😊 Today, I want to share my thoughts on Natissy’s reusable panty liners (affiliate link). As an extra bonus for giving this post a read, please feel free to use the code “JENNAAMZ20” on Amazon to get 20% off Natissy products!

A pack of Natissy reusable panty liners, a sustainable alternative to disposable liners

What I Love About Natissy’s Reusable Panty Liners

First off, it should be noted that these are panty liners and NOT menstrual pads, which means they are not meant to be worn during your period. I personally like to wear liners on days when I have a lot of cervical mucus or know my period will start soon. Once my period actually starts, I switch to reusable menstrual pads. (Don’t worry, I will be doing a full review of Natissy’s reusable menstrual pads next month!) As panty liners, these work great! The material is thin but effective on keeping everything dry. Plus, they move with the body which makes them comfortable to use.

This Natissy reusable panty liners review would not be complete without mentioning how much I love the sustainability of this product! There are a few ways to zero waste your period… So, I love that this company is expanding on their already sustainable product line to include items that 50% of the population uses every single month. While the panty liners are shipped through Amazon, you can follow these instructions to get your Amazon packages plastic-free. AND, the liners are packed by Natissy in a biodegradable bag – it looks plastic but it actually isn’t (which is awesome)!

Other Things I Like About These Liners

I also love that the material is super soft! Natissy uses bamboo and organic cotton in their panty liners and pads, which makes them super soft to the touch. There are plenty of patterns to choose from as well – I personally went with the pack of 7 liners in the color “Black Grapes & Peacocks”. The pattern side faces up when you snap them into place, so I often choose darker patterns as they are less likely to stain or discolor after multiple uses.

Natissy reusable panty liners

The pack of liners I got were in a size small (affiliate link). They are the perfect size for me! Similar to pads, some people prefer longer sizes… So I love that Natissy also has a medium size option as well. While, again, these should not be used during your period, having more sizes is a great way to be inclusive for everyone’s body type.

Unlike the Leeklos pads I reviewed a few weeks ago, these only have one snap closure. I’m a big fan of the snaps, as it helps the liner stay in place and not shift around during the day. Even with one snap, these panty liners did not move around. (Even if they did though, it wouldn’t be that big of an issue since you aren’t bleeding into these liners as you would with a pad).

What Could Be Improved with Natissy’s Panty Liners

Just like with any review on Life of an Earth Muffin, I have to mention price in this Natissy reusable panty liner review. For a pack of 7 small panty liners, it will cost you around $40 (about $6 per liner). Compared to disposable liners, this might seem high… BUT, I feel like this is actually on the lower end to other reusable panty liners on the market. You can also use the code “JENNAAMZ20” on Amazon to get 20% off any Natissy products; this makes it an even more affordable price at less than $5 per liner. Remember, you are buying this product to last many years – you need to take into account the fact that it is handmade with high quality fabrics. 😍

Like I mentioned above, these panty liners only have one snap on them. This might be a “con” to some people if you want to be able to adjust the panty liner to your underwear style. However, this personally doesn’t bother me as I found the snap to work just fine and keeps the liner in place during use. Still thought I would mention it for those who have differing opinions!

Final Thoughts on the Natissy Reusable Panty Liners

I personally love the Natissy reusable panty liners (affiliate link)! They are perfect for keeping me dry before my period; and, I love that the material is soft and comfortable to wear. The small size works great for me, but it is also awesome that they offer a medium/longer liner as well. While the price might seem high at first, these liners are comparable to other reusable liners on the market. Plus, don’t forget to use the code “JENNAAMZ20” on Amazon to get 20% off any Natissy products! Have you ever tried out reusable panty liners before? Comment below what you thought of them!

bookmark_borderLeekalos Reusable Menstrual Pads Review – An Easy Way to Zero Waste Your Period!

Hey earth muffins! If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you will know that I have been trying out sustainable alternatives to period products. The first menstrual cup I tried out, the Lena cup, I wasn’t a huge fan of. The silicone was on the harder side which made it uncomfortable for my body. I tried out the Organicup next, which was definitely softer than the Lena cup… But I still didn’t find it super comfortable either. I decided that I would take a break from menstrual cups and try out reusable pads instead (affiliate link). After using these Leekalos pads for a bit, I thought I would share my thoughts with you all. Let’s jump right into my reusable menstrual pads review!

A picture of four reusable menstrual cups

What I Love About Leekalos Reusable Menstrual Pads

Firstly, they work really well! Similarly to a disposable pad, the reusable ones catch your blood without leaking too. I was a bit concerned about this when I bought them, as single-use pads are made with specific materials to suck up everything. Reusable pads are made of just fabric, so I wasn’t exactly sure if they could successfully do the job or not. But, they definitey can! I bought a pack of smalls and a pack of mediums. At the start of my cycle (which are heavier days), I use the mediums. After day two I am totally fine with wearing the small pads. I love that you can get different sizes depending on your flow, just like “regular” pads!

Reusable pads are SO much more comfortable. The material of disposable pads is often plastic-y and makes weird noises when you walk… Because reusable pads are made of fabric, they are super soft and move with your body. Instead of having to stick it to your underwear, the wings snap together. There are even two different snaps that you can use for the perfect fit! I love this because 1) it is less obvious that you are changing your pad in a public restroom and 2) you can move the pad into a different position easily, if necessary. A stick-on pad definitely does not have this option!

This Leekalos reusable menstrual pads review would not be complete if I didn’t mention washing the pads. The ones I purchased are made of dark fabrics which means they did not get stained. I assume if you buy lighter fabrics they might stain a little, but overall they are super easy to wash! After I changed my pad I would rinse it off and soak it in my sink. Then, I would place it into the “wet bag” that came with the pads. At the end of my period, I did an express wash load to clean all of the pads – and they look good as new. Super easy and awesome that I will be able to use these again and again.

Other Things I Like About Reusable Pads

I also love that reusable menstrual pads save you money in the long run. I bought each pack of 6 pads for around $10 and will be able to use them for a long time (affiliate link). Normal pads and tampons are pretty expensive at the store, and you have to keep buying them every month or so. Plus, these disposable options have the extra environmental cost of rotting in a landfill for hundreds of years! Seems like a no-brainer to opt for the reusable alternative instead.

Lastly, there is just something about allowing your body to free bleed on your period. While I love the idea of menstrual cups, I haven’t been able to find one that works well for my body. Inserting and removing a menstrual cup can be a challenge, so I love that I can just snap on a pad instead. For me, it is definitely better to just let it all flow out naturally (but obviously this might not be your preference).

What I Dislike About Leekalos Reusable Menstrual Pads

While this doesn’t bother me, you might not enjoy getting up close and personal with your menstrual pads. It does add a bit of time to soak/rinse after you change your pad, but it really isn’t that much of a committment. It might even take you longer to insert or remove your menstrual cup if you aren’t skilled at doing so yet!

I also think it is important to note that your pad will obviously smell after it has been used… But, I have noticed the smell to be less than with a disposable one. Don’t worry – no smells will linger once you throw your pads in the wash! To combat any excess smells in the bathroom, I suggest wrapping up your pad before placing it in to your wet bag.

Pin now to read later!

Final Thoughts!

It isn’t very difficult to zero waste your period – there are so many great alternatives out there. I absolutely love reusable menstrual pads! I am a bit bummed I didn’t start with them; but, I guess I would have never known that I am not a fan of menstrual cups if I didn’t. Reusable menstrual pads are comfortable, easy to wash, and budget friendly. I highly recommend checking these Leekalos pads out (affiliate link)! I hope you enjoyed this reusable menstrual pads review – let me know your thoughts on zero waste period products in the comments below!

bookmark_borderIzzy Beauty Mascara Review: An Amazing Zero Waste AND Carbon Neutral Makeup!

Hey earth muffins! During the pandemic, I haven’t been wearing makeup very much if at all. It has been nice to let my skin breathe! 😊 When I was packing up my bathroom before I moved last month, I realized that some of my makeup needed to get replaced. It was wayyy too old! In the past, I have used Clean Faced Cosmetics cake mascara. It is a great product, but I thought this would be a good opportunity to try another sustainable mascara. I found Izzy Beauty through some Google searching and needed to give their mascara a try. After trying it out for awhile (#gifted), I wanted to share my thoughts in an Izzy Beauty mascara review post – let’s jump right into it!

A picture of the zero waste Izzy Beauty mascara in a stainless steel mascara tube

What I Love About My Izzy Beauty Mascara

For starters, this mascara is zero waste. The product itself is packaged in a stainless steel tube that can be returned to the company and reused over 10,000 times! After using a cake mascara for so many years, it is nice to use a mascara in a typical tube package again. 😃 When I saw that you can send the product back to get a refill, I was concerned that this would create extra mailing waste during shipping. BUT, this company sends your mascara in a reusable mailer. The mailer reminds me of the pencil cases I would use in high school, except with a clear flap for the actual packing label. This is something I have never seen before; so amazing!

Along with the sustainable tube, the brush is made out of recycled plastic. I love that the whole mascara is made of eco-friendly materials AND you can get it refilled. Such a great circular economy! The brand truly cares about the environment, as they take measures to reuse water used in the production process as well as keep manufacturing close together to reduce emissions. Compared to the industry standard, their mascara has a 78% smaller carbon footprint after 25 refills. The more you reuse them, the better!

The back of the reusable mailer

How Does it Work?

I obviously have to mention how the mascara works in this Izzy Beauty mascara review… Spoiler: it works great! I have always been one to enjoy a mascara that gives me length. The shape of the wand does a nice job increasing the length of all my lashes without clumping up. While the black color is noticeably darker than the cake mascara I was using, it compares to other mascaras on the market. The product also increases the volume of your lashes as well. Definitely a great mascara to try out!

What Could Be Better

This Izzy Beauty mascara review would not be complete without mentioning the price. Compared to drugstore options, it is quite expensive. To purchase it one-time, the mascara is $39. The company strongly urges you to sign up for the subscription service to refill your mascara every 3 months. This costs $35 + $19 every month if you pay quarterly; or, you can pay $85 for an annual subscription. While sustainable products are often more expensive, a high price like this will exclude many people from trying it out. The last cake mascara I bought was under $20, so there are definitely better priced products on the market. But, the cost of Izzy Beauty includes refilling, cleaning, and shipping… So it depends on what you are willing to pay for high quality, sustainable makeup.

Lastly, I wanted to mention something that might be a con for people: you get charged a fee if you don’t return your mascara tube and/or reusable mailer. While I think this is definitely justified (as the stainless steel tubes are expensive to make), I feel like many customers would get annoyed with this – especially since this fee isn’t advertised very well on their website when you buy the mascara. I found it buried in the FAQ information. For the mascara, this fee is $25 and the mailer is $5. Definitely not cheap! I like that this is an incentive to return the product (thus keeping the circular economy going), but it needs to be more clear that you will get charged if you do not participate.

Final Thoughts on Izzy Beauty Mascara

Overall, I think this mascara is good! While it is a bit darker than I prefer, the mascara gives great length and volume to my lashes. The company is extremely sustainable from a zero waste system of refilling to being Carbon Neutral certified. Plus, I absolutely love the idea of the reusable mailers which I have never seen before! While they are definitely a “high-end” product due to the price, it would be totally worth it to purchase this eco-friendly product over another expensive mascara at Sephora. What did you think of this Izzy Beauty mascara review? Comment below and let me know if you would purchase this mascara!

bookmark_borderGenusee Sunglasses Review: The Amazing Eyewear with a Circular Economy!

Hey earth muffins! When the summer sun starts shining extra bright, it is important to bust out your sunglasses to protect your eyes. 😎 I personally wear them any time I am outside during these warmer months or driving somewhere in my car. This summer, don’t just head to a local store to purchase a pair of cheaply made sunglasses… Instead, invest in a pair that is eco-friendly that will last you many years! In this post, I want to share a company that creates awesome eyewear that is both sustainable and fashionable for the summer months. Genusee sent me a pair of sunglasses to try out, and I am so excited to share this Genusee sunglasses review with you all!

What I Love About the Sustainability of Genusee Sunglasses!

First off, I obviously love this brand because it is sustainable (or I wouldn’t be sharing it with you all!). The company is based in Flint, Michigan, which is infamously known for the Flint Water Crisis. During the height of this crisis, the city of Flint used more than 20 million water bottles a day! This is a great example on how all plastics aren’t “bad” – just imagine how many plastic water bottles were used out of necessity. Instead of producing eyewear using new materials, Genusee prioritizes the use of pre-exisiting materials in their supply chain. This means each pair of sunglasses are upcycled from 15 plastic water bottles from the crisis; that is just incredible! Not only are the glasses made of recycled materials, their suppliers are all located in (or near) Flint as well. This supports local businesses in Michigan as well as reduces carbon emissions during transportation.

Genusee also has a circular economy for their eyewear. Once you are finished using your sunglasses, they actually buy them back from you – and give you a credit towards purchasing your next pair! 😊 After receiving your glasses, they evaluate the quality of them and decide between three things: recycling the material back into the supply chain, refurbishing them and reselling at a value, or donating to people in need. This Buy-Back Program is everything you would want for a closed loop system. I am so excited to know that my glasses will be responsibly put back into rotation instead of sitting in a landfill for thousands of years! 🌎 ❤️

What is Great About My Sunglasses

When picking out my glasses, it was hard for me to pick what color I wanted… Because there are so many great options to choose from! I like that the frames of the sunglasses are all the same shape (called the Roeper frames), but there is still a lot of variation. A color of the frame (such as Black) has many different colored lens to choose from. From vibrant mirror lens to Water Warrier Green frames, there is something for everyone in terms of color! After pondering what color to get, I settled on Classic Black frames with brown lens… Boring, I know, but I love a nice pair of neutral sunglasses!

I also love how these sunglasses fit. They aren’t super large and oversized like some can be, and I think the frames would look good on many different face shapes. Similar to other eyewear brands, Genusee has the option to virtually try on glasses before you purchase them. Definitely take advantage of this feature! It is helpful to see how the frames will look (hint hint: they are going to look super cute!). Plus, it can help you decide between colors as well.

Other Things I Admire About this Brand

Their sunglasses are amazing, but the company also does some pretty awesome things for Flint, Michigan as well. Like I mentioned above, the Flint Water Crisis was devastating. Genusee works with the MADE Institute in Flint to employ returning citizens/displaced workers. While there are 5 colleges in Flint, over 88% of the city’s population does not have a college degree. Genusee knows that sunglasses can be manufactured with a basic understanding of the machines used; so, they strive to creating living wage jobs to help support more Flint workers. On top of this, 1% of their profits are donated to the Community Fund of Greater Flint. These donations help the Flint Promise & Child Health and Development Fund to combat the effects of exposure to lead in drinking water. Definitely another reason to support this brand!

What Could Be Better

This Genusee sunglasses review would not be complete if I didn’t talk about price. When I review sustainable products, I always remind my fellow earth muffins that eco-friendly products are often on the pricier side. These sunglasses are no different. Each pair will cost you around $100. This is much higher than those cheap-o glasses you can find at Walmart (that break after two uses though)… But it is actually in line or cheaper than other high-end sunglasses! So, I would suggest supporting this circular economy instead of buying your next pair of Ray-Ban shades!

Pin now to read later!

Final Thoughts on this Genusee Sunglasses Review!

Overall, Genusee is a brand I would highly recommend checking out. Their circular economy is honestly what every company should strive for. I have never been more proud to share this company with you all! The sunglasses are amazing quality and come in colors for any taste. Plus, this brand actually cares about Flint and is doing its part to help those impacted by the Flint Water Crisis. While the price can be considered high, just compare it to a Ray-Ban and realize that these sunglasses are SO much better in terms of sustainability and social impact. The Genusee goal is simple: to do good for people and the planet using design and collaboration to be the change we want to see. Are you going to support this awesome company this summer? What sunglasses are you currently rocking?

bookmark_borderLUSH Montalbano Shampoo Bar Review: An Easy Plastic-Free Swap

Hey earth muffins! One of the easiest swaps you can make during Plastic Free July is to start using shampoo bars. Instead of plastic bottled shampoo, these bars come with absolutely no packaging! I’ve tried many different shampoo bars over the years. Personally, I really like the bars from Lush; but, many brands are starting to offer these as an alternative to bottles. 🧼 This is the third shampoo bar I have tried from Lush, so I thought it was fitting to write a review for you all. Let’s get into my Montalbano shampoo bar review!

A picture of the Montalbano shampoo bar from Lush

What I Love About the Montalbano Shampoo Bar

Obviously the first thing I love about this shampoo bar is that it is sustainable! There are so many good reasons to choose bar products over bottled, especially since it often means there is no plastic packaging involved. Lush sells these shampoo bars with no packaging in the store. If you have to order them online, they are shipped with water-dissolvable packing peanuts. It is so much fun to watch them dissolve in the sink! If you are looking to reduce some of your plastic in the bathroom during Plastic Free July, swapping to a shampoo bar is a great idea!

I absolutely love the color of the Montalbano shampoo bar. It is bright yellow, which adds a great pop of color in my shower. I appreciate that this color also doesn’t transfer to my tub when I use the product. When using certain shampoo bars (namely the Jumping Juniper bar from Lush), the color will stain the tub a bright color. While this can easily be removed with some scrubbing when I clean the bathroom, I enjoy that this bar doesn’t leave a bright yellow mark in my shower!

This Montalbano shampoo bar review would be incomplete if I didn’t mention the smell – it is amazing! The shampoo bar has a nice lemon citrus scent, but it isn’t overpowering. When I was using the Honey I Washed my Hair bar, the scent of toffee/honey was super strong in the bathroom. While it smelled really good, I personally am one for more subtle scents. According to the Lush website, there is also rosemary in the shampoo bar. But, you don’t really get much of that when smelling the bar. Citrus is definitely the overwhelming scent!

The Montalbano bar is meant to boost shine, add subtle volume, and cleanse your scalp. I think it definitely does those things! My hair feels super soft after using this shampoo, and it definitely has been adding some extra volume to my naturally curly hair. I recently got my first post-pandemic haircut, and I chopped off a ton of my hair. This shampoo bar has been great in keeping it healthy! In terms of cleansing, I have psoriasis on my scalp which often results in extra grease…. I think this shampoo does a nice job of reducing grease too.

A picture of the Montalbano shampoo bar from Lush

What Could Be Better with this Shampoo Bar

The first con to this Montalbano shampoo bar review would have to be the big chunks of dried citrus in the bar. On each side, there are big dried pieces for decoration. While it looks pretty, it just seems like a waste to me. Those dried citrus pieces could be used for something else! Plus, it makes it more difficult to lather up with the bar. Once the pieces fall off, it seems like they could also clog your shower drain. I personally have been saving them to put in the compost bin! 😊

Along with the dried pieces of citrus, the bar itself isn’t as smooth as other Lush shampoos I’ve tried. I’m not sure what gives it a rough texture, but it is definitely not as smooth. I typically like to lather up the bar in my hands before applying to my hair. But, the texture of the bar makes it easier to just lather in my hair directly. Not a huge con to this product, but I wanted to mention it!

Lastly, to close out this Montalbano shampoo bar review, I noticed more dandruff than usual when I first started using this bar. As mentioned above, it is supposed to cleanse the scalp; so, it was probably just doing its job with my psoriasis! But, I wanted to mention it just in case you are prone to having dandruff already. You might want to opt for a different bar.

Pin now to read later!

Final Thoughts on the Montalbano Shampoo Bar

Overall, I think the Montalbano is a good shampoo bar to try! Lush has a really nice selection of shampoo bars to choose from. Especially during Plastic Free July, there is no reason to not try out a package free option. This bar smells great, looks pretty in the shower, and works! While there are huge chunks of dried citrus on it, don’t let that deter you from trying it out. What shampoo bar have you been using lately??

bookmark_borderTatteco Review: Amazing Sustainable Temporary Tattoos!

Hey earth muffins! This year, my boyfriend and I got into the show Ink Master. This competition follows tattoo artists as they compete to win the title of the season’s “Ink Master”. I’ve always thought that small, minimalist tattoos are super cute; but, as someone who absolutely hates needles, I’ll definitely never get a real tattoo. 😬 There are companies out there who make long lasting temporary tattoos (like Inkbox)… However, these create a lot of waste. When I found out Tatteco makes sustainable temporary tattoos, I knew I just had to try them out. I hope you enjoy my Tatteco review!

A picture of a dinosaur temporary tattoo from Tatteco

What I Love About Tatteco Temporary Tattoos

For starters, they value sustainability! 🎉 If you remember putting on temporary tattoos as a kid, they would come with a layer of plastic over the design that you remove to apply the tattoo. To avoid this single use plastic, Tatteco uses paperboard instead. As the paperboard is 100% recyclable, it is a much more eco-friendly solution. Plus, the tattoos are made with non-toxic ink, which is another awesome bonus! In terms of sustainable shipping, the tattoos came with minimal packaging as well. Instead of a bubble mailer or box, they were shipped in an envelope in an adorable recyclable postcard. So awesome to see the sustainability value carried throughout the brand!

A picture of the Tatteco packaging

I also have to mention the numerous design options in this Tatteco review. There are so many to choose from! Even if you aren’t into tattoos, I bet you will be able to find something you like. From lettering to book/film inspired to your favorite celebrity’s ink, it is hard to decide on just a few to try out! After combing through the website for an hour or so, I decided on a mixed set of dinosaurs, some cute earths, two stars, and the words “Carpe Diem”. Each set comes with 3 to 4 tattoos of the same design, which allows for multiple wears!

A picture of my haul of Tatteco tattoo designs

What I Like About My Tatteco Tattoos

Like all temporary tattoos, I found that they are simple to apply. Once you decide where you want it, peel off the top paperboard piece. Place the tattoo on your body and press a damp cloth on the back of the paperboard for about 30 seconds. Make sure to evenly apply this damp cloth – wouldn’t want a part of the design to not transfer to your skin! Slowly peel away the paperboard to reveal your tattoo. Ta-da! Quick, easy, and needle free.

These tattoos also last quite a bit of time! The website says they will stay on for 3-5 days, but I have found that they last much longer if you put them in a place that isn’t rubbed by clothes or scrubbed frequently (like your hands). Plus, they don’t feel sticky to the touch after being put on. I remember temporary tattoos as a kid always being itchy and feeling gross when you touched them… These feel like they are actually part of your skin for a few days! If you are thinking about getting a real tattoo, I would suggest getting a temporary one to test out if you like the design/placement. Definitely fills my need for a “tattoo” without getting stabbed numerous times! 😅

Final Tatteco Review Thoughts!

Pin now to read later!

While there aren’t any cons to these tattoos (in my opinion), I wanted to close out this Tatteco review by mentioning the price. For a set of 3 tattoos, it will cost you $4.99. For 4 tattoos, it is a dollar higher. Honestly, I think this is a great price for an eco-friendly temporary tattoo! However, I am sure you can find crappy, plastic temporary tattoos at other stores for less. So, I figured it was important to mention the price tag in this post. However, I think the price tag is totally worth it. The brand actually cares about sustainability and acts on that value in their tattoos and packaging. They are easy to apply, last a long time, and there are SO many designs to choose from. I will definitely be supporting Tatteco again! Have you ventured into the temporary tattoo space yet?

bookmark_borderWhat I Love About my Knit Nuzzie Weighted Blanket: A Review

Hey earth muffins! Last month I shared a review on the Bearaby Tree Napper weighted blanket. After posting that, I found a company called Nuzzie that also makes knit weighted blankets… My boyfriend had been jealous of my weighted blanket, so I got him a Nuzzie for us both to try out! 😊 Weighted blankets are awesome because they have a bunch of benefits. From reducing stress hormones to helping you get a better night’s sleep, what’s not to love? Let’s jump right into my Nuzzie weighted blanket review!

A picture of a Nuzzie knit weighted blanket on a couch

What I Love About My Nuzzie

First off, I love that this blanket is made from weighted yarn that is OEKO-TEX certified. The OEKO-TEX certification allows consumers to identify products that are more sustainable than others on the market. On top of this, the blanket is super soft to the touch! I absolutely love when things are soft, as it makes it feel even more cozy. I’ve definitely purchased clothes based on touch before… 😬 But there is nothing wrong with that!

The weight of this blanket is great as well. My boyfriend and I picked out the 15 pound, knit blanket. It is recommended that your weighted blanket is about 10% your body weight, and we haven’t found that the blanket is too heavy. The knit weave of the blanket is also great because it allows for a cooling effect – no sweaty nights in bed! We also noticed that the weight is distributed evenly throughout the weighted yarn.

A close up of the weighted yarn in the Nuzzie knit weighted blanket

If you want to match your weighted blanket to your bedroom, you are in luck! This Nuzzie weighted blanket review would be incomplete if I didn’t mention the color range. There are 7 different colors of these knit blankets ranging from red to white to gray (like the one we picked). It is always great to have some options when buying a blanket that will last many years. In addition, this is helpful if someone is prone to spilling things when they are relaxing in bed… We decided to buy a darker color for just that reason. 😅

Lastly, I obviously need to mention that the Nuzzie helps with my anxiety. I am pretty new to the weighted blanket space, but I’m amazed that a blanket can help with reducing my stress. I’ve always been an anxious person; I tend to wake up in the morning with my mind racing with work to-dos. After using a weighted blanket, my mind isn’t racing as much in the mornings. Such an awesome pro to this product!

What I Dislike about my Nuzzie

A picture of a Nuzzie knit weighted blanket when it arrived, vacuumed sealed in a box

The biggest thing that disappointed me was how the Nuzzie was packaged. The website advertises it as a “sustainable” product. But, it came in a crap ton of packaging. It was vacuum sealed in not one but two plastic bags, put into a cardboard box that was taped up with a bunch of plastic tape, and then put into a second cardboard box before it arrived at my door. Compared to the Bearaby weighted blanket, this was a ton more wasteful packaging. Is the website greenwashing the fact that the product is sustainable? Maybe (but maybe not)… I can understand vacuum sealing if it reduces the impact while shipping, but their website doesn’t really explain their sustainable claims. Overall, I was just disappointed that a product I thought was sustainable wasn’t actually as sustainable as it was claimed to be.

I also have to mention price in this Nuzzie weighted blanket review. As I say in many of my sustainable product reviews, it is pricier than the average product. A full sized, 15 pound blanket will cost you $225. This is cheaper than the Bearaby blanket, but I would definitely still classify it as “pricey”. Plus, I think this blanket is slightly less expensive than the Bearaby because it isn’t as sustainable as Bearaby is… Overall, it is important to realize that “sustainable” products are often more expensive than others in the market.

Pin now to read later!

Conclusion: Nuzzie Weighted Blanket Review

Overall, I would highly recommend getting yourself some sort of weighted blanket. I’ve found that they are super helpful in reducing my stressors at night! The Nuzzie is super soft to the touch and has good weight distribution. Plus, there are a ton of different colors to choose from. While it was disappointing in terms of packaging, I think it is still an option for those looking to purchase a weighted blanket in the future. Have you gotten a weighted blanket yet?

Jenna ♥

bookmark_borderAn Easy Sustainable Bathroom Swap: A Bamboo Toothbrush Review!

Hey earth muffins! As I mentioned in my most recent post, I finally jumped on the bamboo toothbrush trend. When I started my eco journey back in 2018, I continued to use my electric toothbrush because I still had a bunch of toothbrush heads. Once I used them up, I was going to either 1) get heads that could be recycled or 2) switch to bamboo toothbrushes… And I decided to try out bamboo! 🦷 I thought this would be the perfect time to share a bamboo toothbrush review with you all. Let’s get right into it!

What I Like About My Bamboo Toothbrush

For starters, a bamboo toothbrush is an awesome sustainable swap! And, it is an easy one too. A lot of brands are coming out with bamboo toothbrushes these days… You can find them at almost every store. I bought a pack of five brushes from a Swedish company called The Humble Co (affiliate link). For only $8.99, I think that is a great price for a sustainable product! When I was thinking about the switch, I randomly thought that bamboo toothbrushes might have a wooden taste to them. They don’t! The bamboo wood doesn’t feel super “woody” either, so you won’t even miss those ocean polluting plastic toothbrushes. 😊

Another bonus of bamboo toothbrushes is how “clean” they look in your bathroom. I’m a huge advocate for bars over bottles because it makes the bathroom look tidy with a minimalist aesthetic. Plastic toothbrushes often come in bright shades of color; a nice wood is much better in my opinion!

I had been using an electric toothbrush for years now, and I definitely forgot how much more control you have with a manual toothbrush. It is often advertised that electric toothbrushes are better for brushing (which may be the case), but I personally find it easier to get exactly where I want brushed if the head isn’t spinning all over the place. Plus, the tiny circular heads of my electric toothbrush didn’t cover as much ground as a bamboo toothbrush does. Definitely a pro in this bamboo toothbrush review!

More Things I Love!

Another bonus of a bamboo toothbrush is that it is easy to travel with. My boyfriend and I recently went on a staycation to a cabin by the lake… Our first trip since the pandemic started! Compared to lugging around my electric toothbrush, a bamboo toothbrush is much easier to travel with. It’s a good thing I kept an old travel toothbrush case from many years ago too – a bamboo toothbrush fits perfectly in any case made for any other toothbrush.

Lastly, it is easy to compost your bamboo toothbrush when finished. For The Humble Co brushes (affiliate link), all you need to do is rip out the bristles and then compost the bamboo! Easy peasy. I’ve seen others where you can compost the whole thing or send them back to the company to be recycled. A few weeks ago I actually saw a toothbrush with replacable heads – how neat! Compared to plastic toothbrushes, there is much less waste; a win-win!

What I Dislike About My Bamboo Toothbrush

Sure, a bamboo toothbrush might be a bit more expensive compared to a “normal” one. However, I personally don’t think the difference is big enough to be a con in this bamboo toothbrush review. After using my toothbrush for awhile, the only thing I can say is that the bristles are on the harder side. This doesn’t really bother me that much, but I know some people like their toothbrush bristles to be softer for less abrasive brushing. As a reminder, I only have experience with this brand of bamboo toothbrushes; I’m sure you can find others with the level of hardness/softness you desire!

Final Thoughts

Overall, I will conclude this bamboo toothbrush review by recommending you all try one out! 🪥 They are an easy (and cheap) eco-friendly swap you can make in your bathroom. I have found that they brush extremely well, can be composted, and increase the “zero waste aesthetic” in your house. While they might be a little more expensive, I believe they are totally worth it. Have you tried out a bamboo toothbrush yet?

Love,
Jenna ♥
