Hey earth muffins! Back in September I wrote a post about CleanO2’s carbon capture bar soaps… And let’s just say I still love them (and have gotten my boyfriend hooked too!). Now that they came out with a line of shampoo and conditioner bars, I was excited to give them a try. CleanO2 kindly sent over their Co-Wash for curly hair, so let’s get right into my thoughts in this CleanO2 co-wash review!
What I Love About This Product
Like I mentioned in my CleanO2 soap review, their products are made using an awesome carbon capture process. The founders of the company created the CarbinX, which captures carbon dioxide emissions from building heating systems. The result of this process is non-toxic pearl ash/potassium carbonate… Which is then upcycled into their sustainable products!
The company’s values of sustainability also shine with their packaging. The recyclable box fits the bar exactly; even the box that it was shipped in was small and recyclable (and it was filled with paper pieces to make sure nothing got bumped around during shipping).
This co-wash also works extremely well! My hair is naturally curly, and if I use a co-wash it get extra curly… Which I love!! To use the product, just wet your hair and the bar. Lather it on and leave for 2-3 minutes. Wash off and you are good to go – super simple. The bar itself has a very subtle scent to it as well, with notes of eucalyptus. Absolutely perfect for a refreshing shower!
This specific bar is for people with curly or dry hair. If you don’t fall in that category have no fear – there are three other shampoo bars (and conditioners) to choose from! I guarantee you will be able to find one that works with your hair type.
What Could Be Improved
Like with any review on this blog, I wanted to mention the price. Currently, the co-wash bar (or any of the shampoo and conditioner bars) are $16. This is similar to what I would pay for a Lush shampoo bar, so I don’t find it to be completely crazy for a sustainable alternative to “traditional” shampoo. However, if you usually buy cheap shampoos this might seem like a lot to pay. I personally think it is worth it for a great eco-friendly swap!
Lastly, to conclude this CleanO2 co-wash review, I wanted to talk about the shape of the bar. It is a half sphere, which makes it difficult to grab in the palm of your hand when the bar is wet and slippery. The biggest part of the sphere does make it easier to coat more of your hairs at once. However, I would prefer the bar to be a different shape (or maybe I’m just used to the shape of Lush bars…).
Overall, I really love this co-wash bar! The product works great with my hair and makes it extra curly the next day. I will definitely be trying out some of CleanO2’s other shampoo bars in the future. Switching to a shampoo bar is such an easy sustainable swap to make – have you made the change yet? Comment below and let me know what your favorite shampoo bar is!
Love,
Jenna ♥
It’s great that there are options for different hair types! This sounds like a really wonderful product.
