How to Use the Femometer Ring (and Set It Up!)

When exploring different natural forms of birth control, there were two that have been helpful to me: the basal body temperature method and the cervical mucus method. For those using the temperature method, a great way to track your BBTs is by using the Femometer Ring. This is a cheaper alternative to the Oura ring and allows you to track your temps while you sleep. For those who have made the switch to this ring (I highly recommend it!), here’s how to use the Femometer Ring (including how to set it up).

How to Set Up the Femometer Ring:

Once your Femometer Ring arrives in the mail, you will need to unbox the ring. I recommend putting it on the charger immediately to ensure it will be fully charged by the time you go to sleep at night. When my ring arrived, it was mostly charged… But I am not sure that will be the case for everyone. You know your ring is charging when it is showing a green light on the charger.

While you are waiting for it to charge, you will need to download the Femometer app if you don’t have it already. Log into your account or create a new one. Make sure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone – you are now all set to add the device to your account!

When you open the app, there will be a Bluetooth symbol on the top right of the homescreen. Click on that – it will take you to a screen that lists all of the Femometer devices. Select the ring and follow the directions to connect the device to your account (you can keep it on the charger as you do this!). Ta-da, your ring is now all ready to use!

How to Use the Femometer Ring:

Right before you go to bed, put on the ring. It should be worn on your index finger (either one is fine). The flat part with the sensors should be on the palm side of your hand. You know you have it on right if it looks like a normal, round ring when you look at your hand. As you put it on your finger, the ring should blink a red light twice. If it doesn’t, take it off and try again. It won’t collect any data if it doesn’t think it is on your finger.

When you wake up, open the Femometer app and sync your data. This only takes a few seconds and is much quicker than having to manually take your temperature each morning (which most people do for the basal body temperature method).

Now, use the app to analyze your data. Using the ring allows you to monitor your temperatures as well as things like sleep. The app is truly a wealth of information – the more you use it the more you can understand your cycle! See my guide on the Femometer app if you are curious on how to analyze your data.

Don’t forget to wear the ring each night! The basal body temperature is most accurate if you take your temperature each day. To ensure I remember to use the ring every night, I keep the charger on my nightstand and put my ring on it as soon as I get up in the morning. That way I know it is always fully charged and ready to go each night!

There you have it – how to set up and use the Femometer Ring. I am such a huge fan of this product. And I’ve been using the Femometer app for many years at this point! It is easy to set up and even easier to use. Again, the more data in the app the more beneficial it is for understanding your cycles. How do you track your cycle??
