Hey earth muffins! If you have been reading my blog for awhile, you know that I use a couple of different natural birth control methods. I have been using my trusty Femometer with the temperature method for many years now. This thermometer takes my temperature each morning, which helps track my cycle. Read this full guide on the Basal Body Temperature method if you are interested in learning how it all works! 😊 Now that I’ve used the Femometer and its app for many years now, I thought I would write a full post of its pros and cons. Let’s jump right into my Femometer app review!
What I Love About the Femometer App
For starters, the app is super easy to use and connect to your thermometer. Once you purchase the Femometer device (affiliate link), you just have to connect it via Bluetooth. Even if you don’t purchase the brand’s thermometer, you can still manually enter temperatures as well. I love that the free version of the app includes everything I need; I know there are other apps that actually make you pay a fee each month just to use it!
The app easily connects to my Femometer and it only takes about 1 minute total to take my temperature and then record it in the app. You can even set an alarm in the app to remind yourself to take your temp! I’ve personally just gotten into a habit of it (I’ll even do it instinctively when I’m barely awake haha). Additionally, I love that you are able to change the setting to a “Night Theme”. The app used to blind me with its bright white screens; now, the screens are dark and don’t hurt my eyes! To change your settings to the night mode, click on the Profile icon on the top right of the homescreen. Select Themes and then toggle to “Dark”.
Another great feature of the Femometer app is the ability to get points as you use it. The more data you input (temperatures, cervical mucus readings, tracking your period, etc.), the more points you earn. You earn points pretty quickly if you use the app every morning like I do! Once you hit a certain amount of points you can redeem them for a monetary discount on any of the brand’s products – so awesome!
But, is it Accurate?
When people hear that you use a natural form of birth control, many don’t believe it can be as effective as others. I’m here to tell you that tracking your cycle is not only easy, but it is incredibly accurate as well! The more data you put into the app, the more accurate its predictions are AND the more easily you can monitor your own cycle as well. The home screen of the app is extremely easy to use; your temperature will automatically update once it has been connected to your device each morning. If you want to record things like sex, cervical mucus, etc. all you have to do is hit the pink “+” button and all of your choices pop up.
Along with a calendar, the app also allows you to visually see all of your temperature recordings. This is super helpful if I am curious about what phase of my cycle I am in. Now that I have been doing this for multiple years, I don’t even need the app’s predictions – I am able to look at my temperature chart and know when my period will start, when I am ovulating, etc.
This Femometer app review would not be complete without mentioning another one of my favorite features: data exporting! While the app has great visuals and charts, it is sometimes helpful to see the bigger picture by exporting a huge chunk of data. If you want to export the data stored in the app, click on your Profile icon in the top right, and then Export Data. You can choose any time frame you want, which is awesome!
What I Dislike About the Femometer App
I have been using this app for years now, so of course there are a few things that annoy me with it. First off, I hate that the app loading screen is bright white. Like I mentioned above, you can change the settings to a Night Mode. This makes all of the screens once you are in the app dark and perfect for my morning eyes. But, this doesn’t change the loading screen which is unfortunately bright white. 🙄
I also have to mention in this Femometer app review that sometimes the app will second guess itself when it is predicting my cycle. I have never had the average cycle length… And if I am stressed or not eating right my cycle will often be 5 or 7 days longer than usual. In these circumstances, the app will move around when it thinks I am ovulating because the cycle is an anomaly. This doesn’t bother me too much, as I usually look at my temperature curve myself to verify what stage I am in. But, if you are also prone to differing cycle lengths keep an eye out for this too!
Final Thoughts on the Femometer App
That concludes my Femometer app review! Overall, I absolutely love my thermometer and the app – I have learned so much about my body and my cycle by using these products! If you are thinking about trying out a natural birth control method, I would highly recommend the Femometer (affiliate link). The app is easy to use, gives you lots of data, and has an awesome reward system with points. While the opening screen can be blinding, this is a small con to a great app! Have you tried out natural birth control before? Comment below what your experience has been like!

Interesting app. I’ve not heard of it before. I’m not on the time of life where I feel the need to track my cycles that precisely, but I will say that I think BBT and cervical mucus is very accurate. Not something most people have looked into much.
I use a different app for tracking my cycles, but would totally use something like this is I was a tad bit younger.
Great review!

Glad you enjoyed it! When I was younger I also used a different app that just kept track of my cycle (I think it was called Flo or something haha), but I love this one so much more – it is crazy how accurate I can predict every aspect of my cycle now!

What you describe is the calendar rhythm method which is the oldest and least accurate fertility awareness method. For readers who would like more science and better efficacy in fertility awareness, try Billings Ovulation Method, Creighton Method, FEMM, or Marquette Method.
