Time to Deinfluence: 5 Eco Products I No Longer Use

Hey earth muffins! I’ve been on this eco journey for years now, which means I’ve tried out a lot of different products. And I’ll be honest – I don’t use all of them anymore. Just because something is sustainable doesn’t mean it is something you actually need to use in your daily life. Unlike the sustainable splurges I’d recommend you check out, these are 5 products I no longer use. Let’s get right into it!

1. Toothpaste in a Metal Tube

While I think David’s and Hey Human toothpastes are amazing because they are packaged in metal tubes, they were just not for me. Something about the baking soda bases made my breath smell like rust/metal after using the toothpaste daily for months. As I spend a lot of time with clients at work, I couldn’t risk my breath stinking. I now use toothpaste in plastic tubes because imperfect sustainability is still sustainability. Hopefully you don’t experience this with these toothpastes!

2. Allbirds Wool Runners

I loved the idea of an eco-friendly sneaker, so Allbirds’ Wool Runners was an easy purchase. The shoe itself was fine, but it wasn’t as comfortable to me as Nike sneakers I’ve had in the past. I wasn’t wearing them nearly enough and noticed myself not walking on the treadmill because they were uncomfortable… So, I ended up donating them to a local women’s shelter and purchased a pair of shoes from Nike’s eco line (I know, they definitely aren’t really that eco-friendly but at least it’s better than nothing).

3. Weighted Blanket

I’ve tried out two different eco weighted blankets for this blog – ones from Bearaby and Nuzzie. While I enjoyed the blankets for awhile, they are quite difficult to wash due to their weight. I also didn’t enjoy using them every single night… When I’m extra cold, stressed, or needing a cuddle when my fiancé is away these are great. But I won’t be using them otherwise.

4. Iron Fish

One of the risks of being on a plant based diet is ending up with low iron. I was extra worried about this when I made the switch, so tried out iron gummies and, eventually, an iron fish. While I can see this being beneficial for some people, the overdose of iron it gave me basically scared me into never using this iron fish again. Oops! I’m sure it is helpful for some, but just not for me.

5. Vegan Protein Powder

Again, with a plant based diet it can be tricky to get the nutrients you need. Some people like to use protein powders to help but I just don’t really enjoy smoothies. While Earth Chimp’s protein powder was tasty and a great way to add extra protein in my diet, I found myself not reaching for it in my pantry. Oh well!

Throughout my eco journey I have found some incredible sustainable products over the years. And just because these are ones I no longer use doesn’t mean you couldn’t enjoy them in your daily life. Let me know if you guys like this type of post, as I could definitely write a part 2 with even more eco things I no longer use. What are some of your sustainable products that don’t really work with your lifestyle??

Love,
