Eco Events to Celebrate Each Month of the Year!

Hey earth muffins! I can’t believe 2024 is only a couple of short days away! I always enjoy the start of a new year because you get to plan out vacations, holidays, and major events. And there are plenty of environmental days that you should be marking on your calendars too! In this blog post, I’ll share the major monthly eco events and holidays, helping you align your year with a commitment to a greener planet. Let’s get right into it!

January

  • Veganuary – This month, take the opportunity to opt for a plant-based diet. Even if you don’t want to go fully vegan, there are ways you can support vegans for those who do. It’s a great way to start off the new year!

February

  • World Wetlands Day – This annual event takes place every February 2nd. Wetlands are such an interesting ecosystem, so this is the perfect time to help support any in your area.

  • World Water Day – This event happens every March 22nd. Water is essential to every living being on Earth, so it just makes sense to have an annual day celebrating all the ways to conserve water.
  • Earth Hour – This event happens every year in late March. To show your support for the Earth, participate in this hour by turning off your lights to raise awareness for the planet.

June

  • World Oceans Day – Our oceans are being impacted by climate change… The 8th is a great time to support them.
  • World Rainforest Day – June 22nd celebrates the rainforest. These diverse environments are being impacted by climate change as well. It’s important to raise awareness for them on this day!

  • International Day of the World’s Indigenous People – This is celebrated on August 9th and is an official United Nations observance.

September

  • Secondhand September – Another month long challenge… Avoid new items and purchase them secondhand instead!
