How to Host a Plastic Free Morning Tea

Hey earth muffins! Plastic Free July starts tomorrow – will you be participating this year?? One of the popular activities to do during July is to host a plastic free morning tea. ☕ According to the PFJ website, these teas are “a tangible and delicious way to get others involved and start having conversations around plastic free ideas, sharing solutions and making a real difference together”. I mean, who wouldn’t love to have a tea party?! In today’s post, I will be sharing my top tips for how you can host a plastic free morning tea during PFJ!

1. Make sure you have zero waste tea and/or coffee!

Tea (and talking about plastic use) is obviously the central part of this event… So make sure you have zero waste coffee and tea! I’ve written a whole post on how to reduce plastic when brewing your hot beverages. My top tip is to buy yourself a stainless steel tea infuser. There is no need for tea bags when you can opt for loose leaf tea instead!

2. Have guests bring their favorite tea cup

Most people I know have their favorite coffee mug, tea cup, and even water bottle! I definitely have my top choices whenever I sit down for a drink. To keep your tea party eco-friendly, have everyone bring something to drink out of. That way they can enjoy the hot drinks and conversations with the comfort of their favorite cup. If you know that some people do not have tea cups, shop secondhand stores in your area to buy a few extras in advance.

3. Make sure you have conversation starters ready!

There is plenty to talk about when it comes to Plastic Free July. Check out their whole resource page for topics to discuss during your morning tea. You can set eco goals for the month, take the plastics quiz to see what you should focus on, or even watch a documentary about plastics.

4. Get creative in the kitchen (or source from a local bakery)

Tea parties aren’t the same without some tasty treats. Whip out your apron and cookbooks and get baking! Source all your ingredients from bulk or buy in glass, metal, or cardboard. Absolutely no plastic packaging if you can help it! If you aren’t the best baker, reach out to a local bakery to see if they can cater the event plastic-free. They might even let you bring your own containers to be filled with goodies!

I think hosting a plastic free morning tea for your friends is a great way to get the conversation started with people who aren’t active in the eco community yet. Hot tea, tasty baked goods, and talking about how to save Mother Earth always sounds like a fun time to me! 😍 Will you be participating in Plastic Free July this year? Comment below and let me know your favorite tea party tips!
