bookmark_borderReusable Makeup Remover Pads: Another Fantastic Seek Bamboo Product

Hey earth muffins! When I started my eco journey, I found that making swaps in the bathroom was the easiest place to start. A great first step is to find reusable alternatives to single-use items: Q-tips, cotton pads, etc. Seek Bamboo kindly gifted me some of their bamboo reusable makeup remover pads to try out; so, I thought I would share a full review with you all today. First up, here’s what I love about this sustainable product:

What I Love About These Makeup Rounds

I absolutely love that these reusable makeup rounds are truly sustainable. Just think about all the single-use pads you will save if you buy a set of these! On top of the reusability aspect of the product, they are made of bamboo. Bamboo is a great eco-friendly material… It is much better for the planet than cotton!

bookmark_borderIs the Zerra & Co Zero Waste Mascara Worth It?

Hey earth muffins! I recently decided to purchase some zero waste makeup from Zerra & Co. Most of my sustainable makeup products were getting old, so I wanted to try out some new ones… Zerra & Co makes a zero waste mascara, so I knew I just had to give it a try and share my thoughts with you all. Let’s jump right into it!

What I Love About This Zero Waste Mascara

The first thing I love about this product is that it is sustainable and truly zero waste. The container is a glass vial with a metal lid, with the option to get a bamboo wand. So awesome that you can reuse the container and/or recycle it when the product is gone! Not only is the mascara in sustainable packaging, it was also shipped in reused cardboard boxes with fully recyclable packing materials.

bookmark_borderCleanO2 Soap Review: A Revolutionary Carbon Capture Product

Hey earth muffins! Looking for an easy way to cut waste in the bathroom? Simple – start using bar soap instead of body wash! I talk a lot about shampoo bars on this blog, but I thought it would be fun to review the latest soap I’ve been trying out. This was kindly sent over to me by CleanO2… And I really love it (but let’s not spoil the rest of this post!). Here are my thoughts on the revolutionary CleanO2 soaps.

A CleanO2 bar soap - soap made with carbon captured

What I Love About CleanO2

For starters, this soap is made using an awesome carbon capture process. The founders of the company created the CarbinX, which captures carbon dioxide emissions from building heating systems. The result of this process is non-toxic pearl ash/potassium carbonate… Which is then upcycled into their soaps! I love that a bar of soap can be a part of this circular economy. A huge win for sustainability and the planet.

bookmark_borderTiani Shampoo Bar Review in Grapefruit Patchouli

Hey earth muffins! Today I’m coming at you with another shampoo bar review… It seems like I’ve been reviewing these a lot lately but it’s just because I like to try new ones whenever one is used up. 😀 I picked up this bar from my local zero waste store (something I am so lucky to have nearby!). It is by the brand Tiani Body Care, which is a Michigan company based out of a town near Ann Arbor. Let’s jump right into my Tiani shampoo bar review!

What I Love About This Shampoo Bar

As I mention in all my shampoo bar reviews, I love that this product is naked and creates no packaging waste. I picked it up from the shelf and took it home in my reusable bag – no plastic needed! Bar products look much better in my shower too, which is why I prefer bars to bottles. This product is shaped like an octagon instead of a circle like the bars from Lush. I personally love that it has a flat bottom, as it helps them stand up in my Ethique soap saver container (affiliate link). Plus, the bar is thicker too which makes it easier to hold onto when I am washing my hair.

bookmark_borderPublic Goods Lotion Review – A Great Way to Keep Skin Healthy this Spring

Hey earth muffins! As we transition out of winter and into a new season, it is super important to keep our skin healthy and happy… And that means keeping it hydrated! My skin tends to get extra dry whenever the seasons change. Last year I was gifted Public Good’s lotion and have been using it ever since. I posted a short review of it months ago on my Instagram, but I thought I would share a full review of it in today’s post. Let’s jump into my Public Goods lotion review!

What I Love About the Public Goods Lotion

First, this company has a strong value of sustainability. This is obviously a huge positive for me. There are plenty of companies out there that say they are “eco-friendly” and then have no green practices to back it up. Public Goods is not like that! This company only makes products that are good for you AND the planet. Their sustainability values also shine through when you get your package in the mail. My lotion was packed in the smallest box possible with only recyclable packaging. Plus, the lotion bottle itself can be refilled with Public Good’s refill pack.

bookmark_borderHey Humans Toothpaste Review – Another Remarkable and Sustainable Product!

Hey earth muffins! At the beginning of this year, I reviewed David’s Natural toothpaste. This toothpaste comes in a recyclable aluminum tube, which is pretty awesome in terms of sustainability. However, at a price of $10 this product can seem a bit outrageous for the typical customer… When I saw Hey Humans carrying a toothpaste (in a metal tube as well!) for only $4, I had to give it a try and share my thoughts with you all. Let’s jump right into the Hey Humans toothpaste review! 🦷

What I LOVE About Hey Humans Toothpaste

It is obviously amazing that this toothpaste is in an aluminum tube. Once you are finished with the product, you just have to make sure to rinse out all the remaining residue before tossing it in the recycle bin. Check out this full guide on how to recycle aluminum tube toothpastes! I am so excited that more brands are opting for a metal tube compared to sticking with plastic. Even the cap of Hey Humans toothpaste is made of 100% plastic waste! This product also comes in a recyclable cardboard box, which makes for a great eco-friendly packaged toothpaste overall.

This toothpaste does an amazing job keeping my teeth clean and healthy. The paste itself is a clear gel with a consistency similar to most other toothpastes on the market. It is also made without harmful ingredients which is always good in my book. There are things like coconut oil and tea tree leaf oil to keep your teeth healthy without exposing your body to any extra chemicals.

A Hey Humans toothpaste review isn’t complete without a taste review: I have personally tried out both the Clean Mint and Wintermint “flavors”. They aren’t an overwhelming minty taste (which I absolutely HATE in plastic-packaged toothpastes), but it still keeps your breath fresh after you brush. I am a huge fan of subtle flavored products, so this is a bonus for me!

Another great thing about this product is the price! I often have to include this in the “cons” section of my reviews, so it is awesome to be able to include it in the “pros” for this Hey Humans toothpaste review. For only $4, this product is basically the same price as most other toothpastes on the market. This makes it more accessible to the everyday consumer – I hope it gets more people to choose the eco-friendly option!

What I’m Struggling With

Like I mentioned in my David’s toothpaste review, there are more zero waste options compared to this product. With products like toothpaste tabs on the market, I can’t say that a toothpaste in an aluminum tube is the best sustainable option you have. BUT, I still think it is a great choice! Some zero waste products aren’t for everyone (like toothpaste tabs can be hard to adjust to); anyone can opt for an aluminum tube instead of plastic!! I think this is an excellent accessible product that anyone can try out.

Another downside to this product is that you have to clean the tube before you can recycle it. This makes sense, as you MUST clean everything before it can be recycled… However, I think this will deter people from actually recycling the tube. I’m sure many will toss it in uncleaned or just toss it in the trash because they are too lazy to take the time to clean it. Please don’t be one of those people and recycle the tube properly!

Lastly, I want to mention that this product is only sold at Target. I think Target has a lot of great eco-friendly products these days… But, it sucks that you can only get this toothpaste in one store. Hopefully this will change in the future, but you might have to make the conscious effort to grab this toothpaste on your Target runs!

Final Thoughts on Hey Humans Toothpaste

Overall, I think this toothpaste is amazing! 😊 In terms of being eco-friendly, the aluminum tub and recyclable packaging are awesome. The price point is much better than David’s Natural toothpaste, which makes this a more affordable option for anyone shopping at Target. It works great at cleaning your teeth but doesn’t have an overwhelming mint flavor. While there are more “zero waste” options out there, I think this is a great option for any low waster – including myself! Have you tried any Hey Humans products before? Comment below and don’t forget to add this to your Target shopping list!

bookmark_borderReview: Native Deodorant in Cucumber Mint, with a PLASTIC FREE Tube!

Hey earth muffins! It’s your girl coming at you with another review today! 😍 I personally have had a love-hate relationship with natural deodorants since I started my eco journey. If you have been following me for some time, you have seen me review deodorants from Pretty Frank before. In the world of natural deodorants, there are so many different kinds to choose from. Baking soda, zinc, why are there so many options? I’ve never found the “perfect” one yet, so when I saw that Native came out with a plastic free natural deodorant, I scooped it up right away. Let’s jump into my Native deodorant review! 🎉

A picture of plastic free Native deodorant in Cucumber melon

What I’m Loving About Native Deodorant

Obviously the first thing I need to mention is that this deodorant is plastic free – amazing! Some natural deodorants (like Tom’s of Maine) still come in plastic containers, so it is difficult to buy them because I feel bad about the plastic. I think it is extremely innovative (and awesome!) that Native was able to create a deodorant container that very closely resembles a “typical” one… But avoid all plastic in the process! I love to support sustainable companies, so I am super happy about the plastic free line that Native carries. However, not all Native deodorants are plastic-free so make sure you carefully look at what you are buying!

One thing that usually turns people off to natural deodorant is that it isn’t an antiperspirant… Which means you will still sweat. In addition, if you are making the switch from aluminum deodorant to natural, you might experience an armpit detox… Never fear, I have a list of tips to make this process nice and easy! I’ve found that, out of all the natural kinds I have tried, this brand keeps me from sweating the most. While I will obviously experience some dampness if I am hot or working out, I don’t notice this happening much. Plus, the deodorant works amazing! I purchased the Cucumber Melon scent after hearing one of my favorite sustainable influencers talk about how it is her favorite; and it smells so good! The Native plastic free line has 5 different scents, but I might just have to stick to this one when I’m repurchasing. 😊

A picture of the top of plastic free Native deodorant

With this natural deodorant coming in its own tube, I LOVE that I don’t have to stick my fingers in a jar to apply it every morning. Instead of a plastic roller at the bottom to push up the product as you use it, this innovative design has a cardboard piece that can be pushed up. It reminds me of those push up pops I used to eat as a kid! 😂 Not having to get my fingers dirty to apply my deodorant in the morning is super helpful in making my morning routine quicker and easier. Perfect for busy work days!

The last positive I will mention about this product is that the plastic free Native deodorants are basically the SAME price as the plastic Native ones. 🎉 In a world where we often see upcharges for sustainable products, I love that I can opt for the eco-friendly verison without spending more money. At Target and on their online store, the difference is only $1. I hope this gets other people to try the plastic free version too!

What Could Be Improved On

This Native deodorant review wouldn’t be complete without a few negatives… I think the first thing to mention is that the paper “push up pop” can sometimes be finicky. I’ve found that you sometimes need to hold it in place as you apply your deodorant. This isn’t a huge issue for me, but it is different than applying your “typical” deodorant.

A picture of the push up part of plastic free Native deodorant

Again, I always like to briefly mention the price. It is $12.99 at Target or $11 if you subscribe on the Native website for a new stick every 3 months… Seems pretty pricey to some. But, I think it is so important to stop using aluminum deodorants – it is so bad for you! If you stop using the cheap, aluminum filled brands, then why not spend that extra dollar to get a plastic free version? I’ve personally seen more expensive natural ones, so I think the price is worth it. 😊

Last but not least, I don’t like that they don’t sell the plastic free version on Amazon. While I try to limit my Amazon purchasing (because shop small and local as much as you can y’all!), I know that many people rely on it for a lot of their shopping. So, by not having the plastic free version on there, you are limiting access to people who might want to give it a try. As someone who loves this product, I highly suggest trying it out! Thanks for reading my Native deodorant review! 😍 What deodorant are you currently using?
