What I Love About This Zero Waste Mascara

The first thing I love about this product is that it is sustainable and truly zero waste. The container is a glass vial with a metal lid, with the option to get a bamboo wand. So awesome that you can reuse the container and/or recycle it when the product is gone! Not only is the mascara in sustainable packaging, it was also shipped in reused cardboard boxes with fully recyclable packing materials.

bookmark_borderA Thrift Books Haul: New Eco Books to Read!

Hey earth muffins! It shouldn’t be a surprise to anyone that I love to read (just follow my Instagram if you need proof!). While I typically use my local library, there are some books that it unfortunately does not have. I thought it would be fun to order some eco books off ThriftBooks, as they have been on my “to-read” list for awhile now. I haven’t used this secondhand book website since college and was excited to support it again. Let’s jump right into my Thrift Books haul!

Make Your Place by Raleigh Briggs

This book was listed in “Acceptable” condition for a price of $5.09. I had added it to my “to-read” list after seeing it at a local gift store in my town. The text looks like it is handwritten, so I thought it would be a fun coffee table book after I read it. Such a fun read on nesting skills, and it mostly focused on things like DIY tinctures, salves, and gardening/composting. Would definitely recommend if you are into sustainable living!

bookmark_borderCleanO2 Soap Review: A Revolutionary Carbon Capture Product

Hey earth muffins! Looking for an easy way to cut waste in the bathroom? Simple – start using bar soap instead of body wash! I talk a lot about shampoo bars on this blog, but I thought it would be fun to review the latest soap I’ve been trying out. This was kindly sent over to me by CleanO2… And I really love it (but let’s not spoil the rest of this post!). Here are my thoughts on the revolutionary CleanO2 soaps.

A CleanO2 bar soap - soap made with carbon captured

What I Love About CleanO2

For starters, this soap is made using an awesome carbon capture process. The founders of the company created the CarbinX, which captures carbon dioxide emissions from building heating systems. The result of this process is non-toxic pearl ash/potassium carbonate… Which is then upcycled into their soaps! I love that a bar of soap can be a part of this circular economy. A huge win for sustainability and the planet.

bookmark_borderRootless Review: The Ultimate Seaweed Nutrition Bite!

Hey earth muffins! Being on a plant-based diet can result in low levels of important vitamins and nutrients if you aren’t careful. An easy way to ensure you are getting the nutrition you need is to take some sort of multivitamin. Enter Rootless – this seaweed bite is perfect for anyone looking to balance their nutrients! I was gifted a 30 day supply of these bites, so I wanted to share my Rootless review with you all today.

What I Love About Rootless

Firstly, these bites are made out of seaweed (which is super sustainable!). Seaweed only requires sun and seawater to grow… And it doesn’t require any added water, pesticides, fertilizer, etc. that land plants need. On top of this, seaweed also draws carbon out of the surrounding ocean/air. This is always a good thing in terms of sustainability!

bookmark_borderSeanik Lush Shampoo Bar Review: What I Love About It!

Hey earth muffins! It has been a little bit since I shared a shampoo bar review…. So let’s fix that! 😍 I’ve almost tried every single Lush shampoo at this point, so I figured I would continue my tradition of sharing what I think about the one I’m currently trying out. With the promise of giving you big, beachy hair, is the Seanik bar worth it??

What I Love About Seanik

In terms of sustainability, bars are always better than bottles. I love using shampoo bars because you can avoid all packaging waste. Not having a hideous, brightly-colored plastic bottle in your shower is also a huge win. The bar is made of condensed materials, which means it lasts much longer than liquid shampoo because it hasn’t been diluted by water.

bookmark_borderMy Backyard Compost Bin: What I Love About It

Hey earth muffins! A great way to reduce food waste it to get yourself a compost bin. If you own a house, condo, or apartment with outside space, there is really no reason to not have some sort of bin. When I purchased my house in December, one of the first things I purchased was this compost bin… And I have been using (and loving) it ever since. Today I will be sharing my thoughts on this compost product to convince you all to start using it as well! 😉

What Compost Bin Did I Buy?

After doing a search of all the backyard compost options, I decided on the IM4000 Dual Chamber Tumbling Composter from Amazon (affiliate link). It was the bin with the most reviews (almost 15,000 of them!); so, I figured it had been tried out by many other people. The price point is about $100, with it often being on sale for around $80. Because it isn’t as expensive as other bins, I thought it would be a good place to start since I was new to backyard composting.

bookmark_borderReview: Lucky Iron Fish and How to Use It

Hey earth muffins! Plant-based diets are amazing – not just for the planet, but for you too. When considering the switch to a more eco-friendly diet, a lot of people think about how their iron levels are going to be affected. There is a common misconception that all plant-based dieters have low iron… Which isn’t always the case. To ensure that I was getting the correct amount of iron, I decided to try out the Lucky Iron Fish. 🐟 Let’s jump into my full review of this product!

What is the Lucky Iron Fish?

The Lucky Iron Fish is basically that: a solid iron fish. It is made out of food-grade (and FDA certified) electrolytic iron powder. When this fish is boiled in a liquid, it releases a significant amount of iron that helps you get to your daily recommended amount. Women need about 18mg of iron each day, which can be difficult to achieve even if you aren’t subscribing to a plant-based diet. I know I struggle with my iron during that time of the month, so this fish is an excellent way to fortify my foods.
